In both real life and in Stardew Valley, having a pet is a wonderful experience. You can take time out of your day to pet and cuddle with your loving pet, but in Stardew Valley, you can build friendship points with a pet to reap some unique benefits.

PostsThese benefits come in the form of gifts, which vary depending on which pets you own. In this guide, we are going to take a look at how you can get gifts from your pets, as well as what the possible gift options are. In total, there are three types of pets that you can obtain.
How To Get A Pet
Your first pet will be given to you for free, with the option to choose from either a cat or dog. Shortly after earning 1,000g, Marnie will visit your farm and present the option to adopt a pet (you can say no to this).
If you have not made 1,000g by the 20th of Spring in Year One, this cutscene will automatically trigger.
How To Get Additional Pets
You can also adopt additional pets by visiting Marnie. There are a variety of cat and dog options to choose from, with each adoption license costing 40,000g.
There are also two turtle options available for purchase, which cost 60,000g (green version) and 500,000g (purple version).
To adopt more pets, your original pet will need to be at maximum friendship.
How To Increase Pet Friendship
Pets can have a maximum of 1,000 friendship points. Below, you can check out how to increase your friendship to this level.

When Do Pets Give Gifts?
Once you reach maximum friendship with a pet, they will have a 20 percent chance each day to give you a gift. To accept this gift, you just need to pet them. If there is a gift available, it will drop when you're petting.
