Poppies are one of the flower variations that you can grow on your farm in Stardew Valley. This round-looking flower isn't well-liked, but it can come in handy from time to time. If you are looking to get your hands on some poppies, you've come to the right place.

In this guide, we are going to take a look at all there is to know about poppies in Stardew Valley. This will include how to obtain the seeds and grow the flowers, as well as what to do when they are fully grown and harvested. First, let's look at the basics of growing poppies.

Poppy Growing Requirements

Poppies grow during the Summer and take seven full days to mature. Once grown, you can pluck the flower, which removes the plant from the ground.

These flowers don't regrow; if you want more poppies, you will need to plant more seeds.

With Speed-Gro fertilizer, this seven-day growing period will be shorter; if you need a poppy and are crunched for time, consider using one of the three Speed-Gro fertilizer variations.

How To Get Poppy Seeds

You can purchase Poppy Seeds during the Summer from Pierre's General Store. One bag of Poppy Seeds will cost 100g, but there are a few additional places where the seeds can be purchased, which are shown below.

Location (Store)

When

Price

JojaMart

All Year

125g

Traveling Cart

Sundays and Fridays

The Traveling Cart has a rotating stock, so the seeds may not be available

150g to 1,000g

Night Market (Magic Shop Boat)

Winter 16

100g

If you have a poppy on hand, you can also place it in the Seed Maker machine, which processes the crop and produces seeds for you to use.

Poppy Selling Price

Poppies sell for a decent amount of gold, especially if they are of higher quality. Below, you can check out the selling price for each poppy quality.

Quality

Base Price

Tiller Profession Price

Normal

140g

154g

Silver

175g

192g

Gold

210g

231g

Iridium

280g

308g

The Tiller profession can be chosen once you reach Farming Level Five. With it, crops will sell for ten percent more gold.

The flower itself can be bought from the Traveling Cart for a price between 420g and 1,000g. This, of course, is a bit of a rip-off. If you desperately need a poppy, and it happens to be available that day, then it may be worth it, but overall, just grow your own.

Gifting Poppy Flowers

Poppies are a universally hated gift, which means that you will lose friendship with everyone you give them to. The one exception to this is Penny, who loves receiving poppies as a gift.

Penny is also one of two NPCs that love Poppyseed Muffins, alongside Leah.

Other than giving poppies to Penny, it's best to keep this flower to yourself.

How To Make Poppy Honey

When a Bee House is placed near grown poppies, you will produce Poppy Honey. Normal honey has a selling price of 100g, but Poppy Honey more than triples this, selling for 380g. If you have the Artisan profession active, this price will jump to 532g.

This is the second-highest selling flower honey, with Fairy Rose Honey taking first place with a base price of 680g.

Can You Craft With Poppies?

A grown poppy flower is only used in one recipe; the Poppyseed Muffin. With the following ingredients, you can make a Poppyseed Muffin in your kitchen.

  • 1x Poppy
  • 1x Wheat Flour
  • 1x Sugar

The recipe for Poppyseed Muffins is learned on Winter 7 during the second year from The Queen of Sauce (television channel).

Poppy Seeds themselves are also used for crafting. With the following materials, you can make a Tub o' Flowers. The recipe for this can be purchased from Pierre during the Flower Dance.

  • 15x Wood
  • 1x Tulip Bulb
  • 1x Jazz Seeds
  • 1x Poppy Seeds
  • 1x Spangle Seeds

Other Poppy Uses

There are a few miscellaneous uses that poppies are used for. Firstly, you can use this flower at the sewing machine to make the Pleated Skirt. At a sewing machine, simply combine the poppy with cloth, creating the Pleated Skirt.

If you're looking to dye clothes, poppies will also provide an orange color when using the dye pots.

Lastly, poppies are used to complete the Chef's Bundle at the Community Center. This bundle is found on the Bulletin Board, and requires a variety of food-related items.
