Before the 1.6 update, that was the case. However, the update added a new Skill Mastery System that will allow you gain even more experience in the form of Mastery Points, which can later be redeemed for new perks and items. Here in this guide is everything you need to know about the Skill Mastery System.

How To Access The Skill Mastery System?

In the Cindersap Forest, across the river below Marnie's farm and near where you found Robin's lost axe, there's a door on the side of the hill with a sign on it.

This is the entrance to the secret room where the new Skill Mastery System awaits, but you will not be able to access this area until you’ve maxed out all of your skills to level ten.

Once you've done that, simply interact with the door to go inside the cave.

Inside, you'll find a note on the floor. It's a letter from Grandpa, who created this room for you to use once you were ready.

How To Earn Mastery Points And Use The Skill Mastery System

When all of your skills have reached level ten, any further experience you gain will now be called Mastery Points. You can track how many Mastery Points you have in two ways:

  • In your menu, at the bottom of the skills tab, your Mastery Points are tracked by a green bar.
  • Interact with the center podium in the secret room to see your Mastery Points progression.

You earn Mastery Points by participating in any of the five core skills: Farming, Mining, Foraging, Fishing, and Combat.

Another way to earn Mastery Points is by using the new Books Of Power to give you extra experience.

There are five levels to reach with your Mastery Points, and each level earns you a Mastery Star:

  • 1st star - 10,000 Mastery Points
  • 2nd star - 15,000 Mastery Points
  • 3rd star - 20,000 Mastery Points
  • 4th star - 25,000 Mastery Points
  • 5th star - 30,000 Mastery Points

Once you have a Mastery Star, you can then redeem it for Mastery in any skill.

The Five Mastery Levels And The Rewards They Come With

Skill

Rewards

Combat Mastery

  • Recipe: Anvil - This piece of equipment allows you to re-forge trinkets so you can randomize their stats. Each transaction costs three iridium bars.
  • Recipe: Mini-Forge - Have your very own dwarvish forge at home and no longer need to rely on Clint for anything.
  • Unlocks a new equipment slot for trinkets.

Foraging Mastery

  • Recipe: Mystic Tree Seed - This seed can be planted anywhere on your farm and will grow a very special tree.
  • Recipe: Treasure Totem - Use this totem on any diggable land to reveal available treasure spots to dig.
  • You now have the ability to find Golden Mystery Boxes.

Farming Mastery

  • Item: Iridium Scythe - Use this powerful scythe to havest any crops, not just the crops that can be harvested with your regular scythe. Can also be used to gather hay.
  • Recipe: Statue Of Blessings - Place this statue on your land, and every day you can touch it to receive a unique blessing for that day.
  • You can now find Golden Animal Crackers. When you feed them to your animals, their produce will be doubled. Doesn't work on pigs, however.

Fishing Mastery

  • Item: Advanced Iridium Rod - Two bobbers can be attached to this rod at one time to maximize your fishing output.
  • Recipe: Challenge Bait - With this bait, a "perfect catch" now yields triple the amount of fish. However, any time the fish escapes the "fishing bar", that amount is reduced by one.
  • You now have the ability to find Golden Fishing Chests.

Mining Mastery

  • Recipe: Statue Of The Dwarf King - Place this statue on your land and each day choose from two mining-related powers.
  • Recipe: Heavy Furnace - With this furnace you'll be able to craft more bars at one time. Usage requires 25 pieces of Ore and 3x Coal.
  • Gem-bearing rocks now grant twice the amount of gems.

Once you’ve claimed all five masteries, the tops of the Mastery wall will light up, a box pops up that says you feel Grandpa’s hand on your shoulder, and a glowing blue cap appears on the statue in the corner.
