As you expand your territory in Romancing Saga 2: Revenge Of The Seven, you'll get the opportunity to fund the construction of a bridge. It seems like a pretty straightforward deal; you invest some crowns up front, and once the bridge is done your Imperial Revenue increases, allowing you to make the money back as you fight and win battles. What could possibly go wrong?

As it turns out, building the Leon Bridge invokes the wrath of the Narwhal, a massive creature revered as a sea god. Until the Narwhal is defeated, that bridge isn't going up and your investment isn't coming back to you.

How To Build The Leon Bridge

As you progress through the game, check in with the inventor Hiragain Somon periodically. He lives in the house on the right just as you enter the town. When the objective Constructing The Leon Bridge appears in Somon, speak with Hiraga and he'll offer to build the bridge for one million crowns.

Like the game's other construction projects, you'll have to wait for the bridge to finish, either by winning battles or triggering a time skip. Either way, once it's done you can see the completed Leon Bridge in Miramar.

Speak to Hiraga at the construction site, and he'll demonstrate the bridge's engineering. You'll also learn the Wizened One Ability, which allows the equipped character to sometimes reveal an enemy's weakness in battle.

How To Find The Narwhal

Following the first time skip after the bridge is completed, you'll receive word that the Leon Bridge has been destroyed. Return to Miramar and speak to the locals to find out what happened.

Since the bridge is out, you'll need to talk to the ferryman at the docks on the right to cross the canal and talk to the villagers on the far side.

After concluding your investigation, talk to Hiraga. He'll tell you that until the Narwhal is hunted down, the bridge can't be rebuilt; otherwise the monster will just knock it down again.

Go to the newly-discovered location, Lake Wyringa, to search for the Narwhal's lair. Once you're there, sail ahead until you're past the rocks on the left, then turn left. You should see a cave along the coastline; the Narwhal is inside.

Watch out for the yellow-scaled Albions as you ply the waters of the lake. Their lightning attacks can deal heavy damage to the entire party.

When you enter the cave, you'll have the option to threaten the Narwhal or leave it be. Threatening the beast starts the boss fight, while leaving it along returns you to the outside of the cave.

How To Beat The Narwhal

Close

The Narwhal hits hard and has a lot of HP, so you might find that the fight is easier if you come back in a later generation with a more skilled retinue. That said, once you're on par with the boss stat-wise, the battle is fairly straightforward.

You can expect to see a mix of physical and magical attacks, so equip your party to resist both. In particular, be ready for the Narwhal to occasionally cast Cyclone Squeeze, which deals both Water and Wind damage and has a chance to Stun its target. The most dangerous attack in the Narwhal's repertoire is Headbutt, which you'll be familiar with if you've fought Dantarg. Gilden Shield or Light Wall make good defenses against this attack, which deals damage to your entire team

The Narwhal's Weaknesses

The Narwhal is weak against the following damage types:

  • Swords
  • Spears
  • Bows
  • Pyrology (Fire)

Having attacks that exploit the boss's weaknesses is more important than any other boss fight, because midway through the Narwhal casts Elemental Coating. This spell renders it immune to any attacks that it isn't weak against until its Horn is destroyed. If you don't have the right gear or spells, you'll be out of luck.

As long as you're properly equipped, you don't actually need to destroy the Horn. If you do need to get rid of it, Greatswords and Earth damage can make short work of it.

One important thing to remember in this fight is to heal using Earth or Light spells instead of Water. The Narwhal can heal about 4500 HP per turn from the battlefield's Water leyline, so if you use spells like Water of Life you're giving the boss an advantage. Be sure to make heavy use of Fire attacks like Flame Whip,Charge, and Prominence to negate the effects of the leyline and prevent the Narwhal's regeneration.

Once the Narwhal is defeated, report back to Hiraga in Somon. He'll immediately rebuild the bridge, restoring the bonus that it grants to your Imperial Revenue.
