FAQ

Q: Is Resident Evil 4 Remake Co-Op?

Q: What Consoles Can You Play Resident Evil 4 Remake On?

Q: What Is In The Resident Evil 4 Remake Deluxe Edition?

The Deluxe Edition features several perks that aren't included in the base game.

The Expanded Treasure Map adds dozens of hidden items to find throughout the game. Most of these are Tokens which can be spent at the Merchant's Shooting Gallery.

Two exclusive weapons, the Sentinel Nine handgun and Skull Shaker sawed-off shotgun, give you more ways to fight off hordes of evil cultists.

The Deluxe Edition also features several alternate costumes for both Leon and Ashley, letting you survive in style!

If you didn't buy the Deluxe Edition, don't worry about missing out - you can purchase all of these perks individually as DLC later.

Q: Where Does Resident Evil 4 Remake Take Place?

While the first three Resident Evil games, and their remakes, take place in the fictional Raccoon City, USA, Resident Evil 4 takes players to a remote village in Spain that's been taken over by a bloodthirsty cult. During the main story, you'll visit the sprawling Medieval castle that stands watch over the area, and eventually find a fortified island where the cultists make their headquarters.

Q: Is Resident Evil 4 Remake Scary?

The Resident Evil series has always focused on campy shock horror, and RE4 Remake is no different. While there are a handful of jump scares, most of the game's fear factor comes from disturbing enemies and extreme violence including decapitations and dismemberment.

If those don't bother you, you'll probably see RE4 Remake as more of an action game than a horror game.

Q: Is Resident Evil 4 Remake Hard?

Resident Evil 4 Remake can be challenging at times, especially since some enemies can kill Leon with a single attack. It never feels unfair, though. The game has four difficulty settings that allow you adjust the challenge to your liking. The highest difficulty level, Professional, is only available after finishing the game at least once and is much tougher than even Hardcore Difficulty.

Q: How To Unlock The Mercenaries

The Mercenaries is a horde mode that lets players fight large groups of enemies to try and rack up a high score. It's available as a free DLC, but you need to complete the Main Story at least once before you can try your hand at it.

Q: How To Unlock All Characters In The Mercenaries

The Mercenaries lets players control Leon, Luis, Krauser, and Hunk, all of whom have different loadouts and abilities. Only Leon is available from the start; getting an A Rating on any map will unlock Luis. Playing as Luis, get an A Rating to unlock Krauser, who in turn unlocks Hunk in the same manner.

Q: What Do You Get For Beating The Mercenaries?

Getting a high score in The Mercenaries is mostly for bragging rights and a place on the leaderboard. However, there is an extra reason to play every map!

If you get an S-Rank score (250,000 or higher)with at least one character on all three maps, the Handcannon will become available to purchase from the Bonus Menu. Once unlocked, you can get the Handcannon from the typewriter's storage in the Main Story.

While it's not as powerful as it was in the original game, the Handcannon is still a magnum revolver that packs a wallop, making quick work of most enemies.

Q: Can You Save The Dog?

Yes, you can still rescue the dog from the bear trap. When you leave Mendez's house at the beginning of Chapter Three, walk around to the side of the building to save the dog. In return, he'll help you out during a later boss fight.

After the battle, you can approach the dog and Leon will thank him - sadly, however, you can't pet the dog.

Pre-release gameplay footage showed a dead dog that Leon finds earlier in the story, leading fans to speculate that the beloved buddy from the original had been killed off for shock value. Don't worry, though, as long as you remember to save him from the trap, "that dog" is alive and well.

Q: Who Is The Merchant?

We've been asking the same question since 2005. The mysterious Merchant never reveals his name or face, and his Cockney accent seems out of place in rural Spain. All we know is that he seems to have a vendetta against the cult and wants to help Leon in his mission, but won't do it for free.

The Merchant's notes seem to suggest that he's somehow related to the local nobility, but there are no more details than that. What's your theory?

Q: Can You Heal In The Mercenaries?

Healing works the same way in The Mercenaries as it does in the Main Story; you can open your Inventory at any time and use a healing item to restore your character's health.

Healing items are scarce in The Mercenaries; there are exactly one Red Herb and one First Aid Spray on each map, as well as one or two Green Herbs. However, they always spawn in the same place so once you know where they are you can get them every match.

Enemies will occasionally drop Green Herbs as well. The drop rate increases the lower your health gets, so you're never completely locked out of healing.
