Layla serves as one of Redfall's four playable characters. She is a student - or was before Redfall went to hell - with telekinetic abilities. As such, she has several unique powers that the average person doesn't have.

However, fancy abilities don't solve every problem when you're stuck in a world containing vampires, especially as some of them are incredibly powerful. Therefore, to get the best of her, you need to unlock the right skills on the skill tree. But the "right skills" partially depend on your style of play. Here are a few different builds that may be a good fit for you.
Support Build
In co-op, Layla is a useful character to have, as she has several skills that help her provide assistance to her teammates. Combining them together makes for a solid support build.
To accomplish this, these are the skills you should aim to get:
Skill Name
What It Does
Shot In The Arm 2
Increases how much health a teammate gets when you revive them.
Psychic Sharpening
Both you and your allies gain a boost to their bullet damage when lifted up by the Lift ability.
Telekiwhosis
Allies near you take less damage from fire, electrical hazards, and red mist.
Energized Ascension
When lifted into the air by the Lift ability, you and your allies reload faster.
Go Your Own Way
Jason's attacks improve in various ways. More importantly, they heal Layla and all nearby allies.
Along with getting those specific skills, you should generally focus on the Lift section of the skill tree.
After all, your teammates can also make use of this power.
Gunslinger Build
Layla is known for her telekinetic powers. Yet, like everyone else, she also has access to plenty of guns.
If you prefer to use weapons more than powers, then the following skills are the ones you should be looking at picking up:
Skill Name
What It Does
Bandoliers 2
Enables you to hold more handgun and shotgun ammo.
Long Gunner 2
Allows you to carry more assault and sniper rifle ammo.
Vampire Slayer 2
Lets you carry more stake launcher, flare gun, and UV Beam ammo.
Psychic Sharpening
Gives you and your allies a boost to your bullet damage after being shot up into the air by Lift.
Rain Collector
Damage to your Umbrella refills your ammunition.
Those skills are key for those wanting to prioritize guns.
You can also invest in some boosts to the Lift ability, as that's a power designed to work with guns.

High Damage Build
Nobody would consider Layla to be anything resembling a tank, and dealing out high damage isn't exactly her strong suit.
However, there are several skills you can acquire that will boost her overall ability to damage enemies. Here they are:
Skill Name
What It Does
Died In Your Arms
Allows Jason to attack more often.
Wrecking Ball
Jason's attacks deal more damage.
Go Your Own Way
Boosts Jason's damage, number of attacks, and attack range. Also, heals you and nearby allies.
Bullet Hail
Increases the damage of the Umbrella Blast based on the amount of damage the Umbrella absorbed.
Thunder Clap
Boosts the range and damage of Umbrella Blast.
All those skills are in the Jason and Umbrella sections, as they're Layla's most powerful tools in her arsenal, especially Jason.
So, if you're going for high damage, those are the sections you need to focus on.
Defense Build
If you're struggling to survive in the town of Redfall, perhaps you should look into a defense build.
Layla has a few skills that assist in keeping her safe. These are the ones to look for:
Skill Name
What It Does
Quick Recovery 2
Increases your health generation when HP is low.
Telekiwhatsis
Layla takes less damage from death mist, electrical hazards, and fires.
College Diet
Improves the healing effect of food.
I Will Survive
Jason can revive when she is downed.
Go Your Own Way
Jason's attacks heal Layla and her allies for a percentage of the damage inflicted. Also improves Jason's attacks.
Those are the main skills that will keep you from dying due to their healing benefits. The Umbrella can also stop you from taking as many bullets, so that's worth investing in also.
Plus, Jason is a partial defensive power, as his presence serves as a bit of a distraction, thus, feel free to get skills related to him.
