That's because built into the game is a handy way to determine whether your DualSense has stick drift.

No, we're not joking.

Is Your Controller A Victim Of Stick Drift?

The ability to test whether a DualSense has stick drift without the use of any computer program was first spotted on Twitter via an aspiring game developer. That gamer noted how Astro's Playroom, the packed-in tech demo on the PlayStation 5, is a great way to test out a DualSense.

Then, our own James Troughton discovered on their own that Astro Bot, Friday's latest release, also has that same handy feature. And, yes, their controller is a victim of massive stick drift.

Check it out:

Of course, it's highly unlikely that Team Asobi or Sony intended for the feature to be a way to test out whether a DualSense is working as intended, but it's pretty neat regardless.

For whatever reason, stick drift has become an all too common occurrence with controllers, beginning with the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One generations. There are several theories as to why now, all of a sudden, it's an issue, including the presence of more demanding games, as well as the potential for low quality control at the design level.

Whatever the case may be, it's gotten to the point where gamers have attempted to get the courts involved. In 2023, there was a lawsuit against Nintendo revolving around the Switch Joy-Cons that was dismissed due to owners having accepted Nintendo's EULA, which prohibits suits.

Litigation aside, if you're at all curious if your controller is in good shape, then Astro Bot is a fast and easy way to do so. Shoutout to hidden features.
