Pro Tip: Lorcana Packs Are Designed To Protect You From Scammers

Bad News: Disney Lorcana has a major security issue. Instead of the traditional plastic wrap, Lorcana boxes use a removable pull tab that, once removed, can’t be replaced. This is a great solution that will stop bad actors from removing or altering packs before resealing the box and selling it, and it also saves the world from more plastic waste. Unfortunately, the top of the box is unsealed on both sides, making it easy to slip a hand in and pull packs out - or put packs in.
This is a huge problem that completely defeats the purpose of the pull tab. Dishonest sellers don’t even need to take the time to carefully open a package and reseal it with plastic like other games - they can just reach into the box, take out all the packs, then do whatever they want with them. There’s no guarantee that a box you buy will come with all the packs it's supposed to, so it’s important to stay vigilant and check for signs of tampering.

Luckily, Ravensburger has included an additional security measure to help customers ensure they get what they pay for. Booster packs that come from the same box will all have the same serial number printed on them. Same goes for Treasure Troves and gift sets as well. When you open a booster box, you can count out 24 packs and ensure that all of them have the same code on the back.
This is important, because it ensures that all of your packs come together from the factory. One method that scammers use is to weigh all of the packs in order to find any enchanted rares, then replace the heavy pack with a light one and sell the rest. If you have one pack that has a different number, that could mean the person that sold it to you lifted your enchanted card out of the box. If all the numbers match, there’s a high likelihood that the box hasn’t been tampered with.
What should you do if you discover your box has been compromised? First thing first, don’t open the packs. You’ll have a much easier time getting a refund or replacement if the suspect packs are still sealed. Next you should contact Ravensburger directly using the Safety/Quality option on its Contact Us form. When asked, Ravensburger says it’s working ona simple and easy-to-use customer support process for Lorcana, but the general contact form is the best method for now. Here you can enter the item number and explain to Ravensburger where you got the product and why you expect it’s been tampered with.
It may or may not be able to provide a replacement, but it’s important to inform the company about scams like this so that it’s aware and can take action if necessary. You can try to get your money back from the seller too, but even if they agree to refund you, they’re probably going to just run the same scam on someone else. Don’t buy from people that tamper with boxes, and make sure you inform others that the seller can’t be trusted.
This isn’t a perfect solution, of course. Just because all the packs in a box match doesn’t mean it hasn’t been sorted and weighed. Most booster boxes don’t have enchanted cards anyway, so just because things look right doesn’t mean the seller hasn’t looked through your packs before you. There’s always the chance that people are opening packs, swapping cards out, and resealing them, too. This box itself needs to be redesigned in order to prevent these possibilities, but in the meantime, at least you can match the serial numbers on the packs and have some peace of mind that you aren’t being ripped off.
