Each Generation of Pokemon games is featured in the Pokemon TCG, but the Kalos Starter Set is an unusual promo subset filled with Kalosian and other Pokemon. Whether you're a fan of Furfrou or Snorlax, there are plenty of Normal-type Pokemon with valuable cards in the Kalos Starter Set.

Kalos Starter decks also come in three versions, with each one highlighting one of the three starters: Chespin, Fennekin, or Froakie. While the consistent inclusions in each deck take some of the surprise out of what cards you can expect to find in a Kalos Starter Deck, the cards are more valuable than they appear at first glance.

Cards are ordered according to their TCGplayer market prices. Cards without a market price are not included.

Farfetch’d: Kalos Starter Set (Common) – $1.79

Where Any Pokemon Can Shine

While several average-looking Pokemon TCG cards are more valuable than you'd think, this Farfetch'd is about as expensive as you might expect. That is to say, it's pretty affordable at under two dollars, but considering that it's only a Common card, the price tag is still fairly impressive.

Most modern Common cards typically fetch between two cents and 99 cents, but Common cards from the Kalos Starter Deck are a bit more sought after.

Even though Farfetch'd isn't anything to get particularly excited for when it comes to its value, it's good to see this typically overlooked character feature on a decently valuable card.

Mightyena: Kalos Starter Set (Common) – $1.84

Howling For More

Mightyena is another Pokemon you might not expect to make an appearance as an exceptionally valuable card, and you'd be right about its value in a vacuum. A sub-two-dollar price tag is usually too cheap to make waves in most sets, but it's enough to earn Mightyena a place among the most notable cards in the Kalos Starter Set.

Mightyena's inclusion is a bit unusual, since it doesn't have a particularly strong connection to Kalos, but it serves as the perfect contrast to a Kalosian favorite: Furfrou.

Furfrou: Kalos Starter Set (Common) – $2.63

A Precious Poodle

Furfrou is an iconic Pokemon in Kalos, imitating the type of elegant poodles you might expect to see in the real-world version of Kalos, France. As a classic inclusion in any Kalos-themed media, Furfrou is one of the must-have Pokemon in a set like this, but its price is still lacking compared to some of the more valuable cards.

Despite being outshone by a handful of other valuable Kalos Starter Set cards, Furfrou makes an impressive appearance among the best in the set, as this Pokemon rarely sees much attention in the Pokemon TCG.

Greninja: Kalos Starter Set (Common) – $4.06

Kalosian Perfection

Greninja stands out as arguably one of the most popular Pokemon of all time, and a leader among the best Kalosian Pokemon. Aside from appearing on some of Ash's most expensive Pokemon TCG cards, Greninja stands out as one of the coolest starter evolution designs, thanks to its ninja aesthetic and its deadly Water Shuriken attack.

Greninja is also the only Pokemon to gain access to the 'Ash Evolution,' as it becomes Ash Greninja in select media, but hasn't been depicted in this way in years. Considering its now-disregarded history, Greninja has some of the coolest lore of any Kalos Pokemon.

Skitty: Kalos Starter Set (Common) – $5.07

Life's Looking Up

Just as you might expect, Skitty succeeds Greninja as one of the most valuable Kalos Starter Set cards. Wait a second, that can't be right; can it? Well, it is right – Skitty is more valuable than Greninja in an apples-to-apples comparison.

While this may sound like a joke, it's nothing but a fact when it comes to the Kalos Starter Set, as this unusual set of starter decks is full of surprisingly valuable cards and unusual comparisons that buck all of your expectations.

Miltank: Kalos Starter Set (Common) – $5.79

Out To Pasture

Miltank became legendary in Generation Two as the most annoying Gym encounter when Normal-type Gym Leader Whitney uses it to incredible effect against you.

If you've never experienced the horror of Whitney's Miltank and have no idea what we're talking about, consider yourself exceptionally lucky and just forget about it.

This Miltank's unbothered, somewhat proud expression somehow feels directly linked to the immense amount of frustration it seems to know that it caused. Maybe we're just projecting onto this unusually smug-looking Miltank, but the memories won't let us believe otherwise.

Bidoof: Kalos Starter Set (Common) – $10.04

A Bidoof And A Stick

What better way to follow up a meme-worthy trainer encounter than with arguably the most meme-worthy Pokemon in the history of the game. While Bidoof's unremarkable design and strength are typically the subject of sarcastic jokes fantasizing about its hidden strength, this Pokemon's aura might finally be manifesting in its value.

Bidoof blows most other Kalos Starter Set cards out of the water, with one of the few to cross into the double digits. It's not the most valuable card in the world, but ten dollars for a Bidoof card is not a sentence we'd ever read.

Snorlax: Kalos Starter Set (Common) – $29.05

The Perfect Day

Snorlax is one of the most valuable Pokemon ever, featuring an impressive roster of expensive cards dating back to the First Generation of sets. While its design has seen many changes, this card perfectly captures Snorlax's sleepy nature.

A relaxing day lounging among a field of flowers is the only thing on this Snorlax's mind as it enjoys the warm rays of the sun streaming down from the bright sky above. At almost $30, Snorlax exceeds its competition by a wide margin as the most valuable Kalos Starter Set card.
