We've seen very little from Pokémon Winds and Waves so far, other than its starter 'mons and a brief glimpse at its new ocean-faring region. This weekend, however, leakers have shared a bizarre tease of seven Pokémon being introduced this gen, using a photo of an echidna and Anna—the sniper from Overwatch—as clues.

As reported by Game Rant, the photo comes from Centro Leak's "good source" Billy, and looking at the image, we can see everything from a pirate bird to a kickboxing marsupial. Here's a quick rundown of the teaser:

  • First up is what looks to be a maleo and a pirate captain (from the Backrooms, weirdly), perhaps hinting at a swashbuckling bird Pokémon—befitting the maritime theme.
  • There's a kickboxing vogelkop tree kangaroo, presumably meaning a fighting-type marsupial found in the mountains.
  • The third clue is two pictures of a komodo dragon paired with a fire-breathing dragon, something that was datamined in April.
  • That echidna paired with Anna that I mentioned is possibly alluding to a Pokémon that uses its long beak for precise, long-ranged attacks.
  • One of the more popular inclusions is the tapir and Buddha statue, perhaps referencing a meditative psychic-type; some fans have even suggested that it could be a regional drowzee line.
  • The last two are paired: the first half being a female rabbit (judging by the cartoon girl) with ties to the moon. This may be a reference to the mythical figure in East Asian folklore, a lunar hare that produces herbs for immortal beings.
  • The other half of the pair is a male tropical bird, potentially a hornbill, alongside an image of the sun. Hornbills are also native to Indonesia, which is one of the real-world inspirations for the Gen 10 region.

It's theorized that the 'sun bird' and 'moon rabbit' are version-exclusive legendaries, presumably for Winds and Waves, respectively. But the game isn't due to launch until next year, and prior reports have claimed that we won't see more from Gen 10 until then, so it could be a while before the leaks are verified and we find out what exactly these seven images represent.

In the meantime, the rumor mill is churning away as fans debate what the clues mean. Some have even suggested that the Backrooms pirate bird is, in fact, Browt's final evolution, not strictly a new 'mon, and there are even theories that the 'moon bunny' is actually a Lopunny regional variant.
