There are only a few dual-types left that Game Freak hasn't tapped into across Pokémon's extensive 30-year history, with Fire/Fairy among the most-requested. However, according to reputable leaker Centro, fans might finally get their wish soon enough with Winds and Waves.

In a new post to X, they shared a rumor making the rounds right now among insiders: supposedly, Browt's evolution will become a Grass/Ground type, Gecqua's will be a Water/Psychic type, and Pombon's line will secure the ever-elusive Fire/Fairy type—marking the fluffy little Pomeranian as the series' first.

A Tiny Pom-Pom Starter Could Make Pokémon History

The idea of a tiny pom-pom evolving into one of the most powerful 'mons in the franchise's history is a little hard to wrap my head around, but it might have sold me on the yappy handbag dog. Not only would that mean immunity to Dragon types, but it would also boast a natural resistance to Bug, Dark, Fairy, Fighting, Grass, Ice, and Fire, making it an all-round Pokédex titan. From the purse of Paris Hilton to contending with box-art legendaries.

The other missing type pairings are: Normal/Ice, Normal/Bug, Normal/Rock, Normal/Steel, Ice/Poison, Ground/Fairy, Bug/Dragon, Rock/Ghost.

Pombon is stealing the limelight a little with its historic Fire/Fairy typing, but Gecqua evolving into a Water/Psychic type would make it the first starter in Pokémon history to do so, another noteworthy milestone. The green Angry Bird—AKA Browt—would also be the first starter since 2006 to evolve into a Grass/Ground type, following in Torterra's massive footprints.

In all fairness, Fairy is a relatively new type, only being introduced in Gen 6—but that would still mark a 14-year wait for a Fire/Fairy type if the leak holds water (just don't splash any on Pombon). There are some 'mons from before X and Y that fans believe should be regarded as Fire/Fairy retroactively, like Victini, which was made a Fire/Psychic type to represent its magical, mythic status—something that 'Fairy' would fit far better—but Game Freak hasn't given into the temptation to rewrite history just yet.

This isn't the only leak to come out of Centro this weekend, either. Yesterday, they shared a photo from their "good source", Billy, of seven different teases for new 'mons arriving in Winds and Waves, using a photo of Anna from Overwatch and even a pirate from the Backrooms as clues. What they mean is anyone's guess right now.
