Pokemon Scarlet And Violet: Shiny Chi-Yu Tera Raid Guide

The final Treasures of Ruin event is finally here in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. Of all the battles up to this point, Chi-Yu might arguably be the easiest of all these dark, shiny legendaries. However, this does not mean one should venture into its raid dens unprepared.
With its deadly offensive prowess, Chi-Yu will require you to keep a strong defense if you want to survive long enough to claim victory. Should you best this nimble fish, you will be rewarded with a plethora of useful items to grow your partners' strengths and find yourself one step closer to claiming this shiny, one-of-a-kind legendary on your team.
Shiny Chi-Yu Raid Event Information
This event is only available from September 1, 0:00 UTC to September 14, 23:59 UTC in 2025.
Shiny Chi-Yu is the fourth and final quarter of the Treasures of Ruin special event. While you cannot catch Shiny Chi-Yu during the raid portion of the event, you can receive it as a Mystery Gift once the community has a combined 1,000,000 victories.
You can fight Chi-Yu alone or with friends; however, we recommend that you areconnected to the Internet during your raid battles for your defeat to count.
Wo-Chien and Chien-Pao are both available for Mystery Gift download currently, and Shiny Ting-Lu will join them soon. All three have cleared their community defeat requirement.
If you did not defeat any of them, do not worry. All players can receive these Pokemon as Mystery Gifts so long as they have a Nintendo Online account and can connect to the Internet.
To claim these legendaries while they are available to the public, follow these steps:
- Connect to the Internet.
- Use the Poke Portal in your menu.
- Select Mystery Gift.
- Select "Get via Internet."
These legendaries — as well as extra Tera Shards (x40 for each 100,000 victories above 1,000,000) — can be selected and accepted once per profile.
Raid Rewards
In lieu of catching the legendary, you will receive several rewards for each clear of Ting-Lu. These rewards generally fall into the categories below:
- Fire Tera Shards.
- Exp. Candies (L and XL).
- Rare Candies.
- Bottle Caps.
- Vitamins (PP Up and Calcium).
- Ability Patches.
- Modest Mints.
- Herba Mysticas.
- Rare Sale Items (Nuggets, Comet Shards, Star Pieces, etc.).

Beads of Ruin
Ruination, Snarl, Heat Wave, Dark Pulse, Flamethrower
Where all Vessels of Ruin so far have always used Ruination at the start of a raid battle, Chi-Yu uses Ruination twice:
- At the start of the battle.
- At the 50 percent mark on the timer.
Furthermore, the Beads of Ruin will activate from the start of battle, lowering the Special Defense of all Pokemon by 25 percent (except Chi-Yu).
Thankfully, Chi-Yu's movepool is limited only to Fire and Dark-type moves with no available coverage. Of these moves, only two should be noted:
- Heat Wave will cause a 2-stage Special Attack debuff on Chi-Yu.
- Snarl can cause a 1-stage Special Attack debuff on its target.
Best Pokemon To Defeat Shiny Chi-Yu
Shiny Chi-Yu is a very black-and-white fight where his limited movepool and lack of coverage mean that most type advantages on paper will work.
However, Chi-Yu's high Special Attack and Special Defense base stats mean that the best Pokemon will always fall into most or all of these categories:
- Physical Attackers.
- Water, Rock, or Ground type.
- A secondary typing of Fairy, Fighting, or Dark.
- Good Special Defense and HP base stat.
The Pokemon listed below have all been tested and verified by us, each successfully clearing a raid with Chi-Yu. However, this list is not exhaustive of every possibility.

Special Notes
Terrakion
Fire, Dark
Justified ability creates a dangerous Physical sweeper with STAB Stone Edge. Paired with a Shell Bell to aid with restoring resisted damage, Terrakion can easily solo.
Poliwrath/Azumarill (Huge Power)
Fire, Dark
Both Belly-Dance users can deal astonishing physical damage and use STAB Liquidation to weaken Chi-Yu's defenses further. Poliwrath is a slightly better option for its better bulk and speed.
Crawdaunt
Fire, Dark
Adaptability Crawdaunt with an Assault Vest can overcome Crawdaunt's Special Defense weakness while opening the door for steady damage. STAB Crabhammer has 200 base power with an increased Critical Hit rate for a deadly combination.
Urshifu-Rapid
Fire, Dark
Punching Glove Urshifu-Rapid can use Surging Strikes to maximum effectiveness. Unbothered by most of Chi-Yu's attacks, Urshifu can be an offensive cannon.
Coalossal/Hisuian Arcanine
Fire
Steam Engine and Flash Fire make the most out of Chi-Yu's potential to use Fire moves despite resistances. Large bulk paired with a Shell Bell can mitigate normal effectiveness Dark moves. STAB Stone Edge and Rock Slide deal big damage.
Garchomp
Fire
Garchomp has access to both STAB Earthquake and Swords Dance. On a Sandstorm raid team, evasion adds to Garchomp's longevity. While Flygon is also an option, Garchomp outshines it in stats and ability for this fight.
Tyranitar
Fire, Dark
Sets up Sandstorm for a Sandstorm team (great pairing with Garchomp). While resisting all Chi-Yu moves, it also boasts high defensive stats and a great Physical Attack. Dragon Dance can raise Attack and Speed to prepare for STAB rock moves like Stone Edge and Rock Slide.
Kyogre
Fire
The large bulk is a great benefit for any team, and Water Spout's damage is catastrophic to Chi-Yu. Keeping HP high will be important, and though Snarl can present a slight problem, Kyogre's unique ability helps set up for other teammates.
Primarina
Fire, Dark
Resisting all of Chi-Yu's attacks, Primarina is especially good at supporting teammates. With Rain Dance and Life Dew, Primarina can become an unofficial tank of any team. Where possible, she can also deal damage with STAB Sparkling Aria.
Quaquaval and Greninja have the right typing and attacks. However, both are victims of their own poor defenses and can easily be overwhelmed by Chi-Yu (even with a Shell Bell during the shield phase). Furthermore, Greninja's Role Play move does not work to take Chi-Yu's ability.
Tips And Strategies To Defeat Shiny Chi-Yu
Chi-Yu is slightly different from its predecessors in two important respects:
- It will use Ruination to lower a target's HP by half at the start of battle and at the 50 percent mark on the timer.
- It will steal your Tera Orb charge at the 85 percent mark on the timer.
Because of these two aspects, the first half of any fight with Chi-Yu is the hardest part. Your Terrastallization will be delayed, and your health may be severely reduced.
As you won't be able to Terrastallize quickly anyway, the first round of a fight with Chi-Yu is best spent in preparation. This can look like:
- Setting up a weather effect.
- Using a passive healing move like Aqua Ring.
- Increasing stats through Cheer or status moves.
Chi-Yu will also not remove any status effects from itself until the shield is broken or it falls to the 45 percent mark on the timer (whichever comes first), meaning that any attempt to lower its defenses can be very useful.
After the first round, all other rounds should be dedicated to building up your Tera meter and dealing damage.
If you are scared of your stats being reset, take special note of the timer marks where Chi-Yu will always remove stat changes and ability effects from your team:
- 80 percent.
- 50 percent.
This means that you can safely make status changes after the 50 percent mark without fear of them being removed. However, Special Attackers must stay vigilant of Snarl debuffs.
With enough tenacity and smooth teamwork with your allies, you should be able to fry this fish. One defeat down, 999,999 to go!
For those who have time between their Chi-Yu attempts and training their Pokemon, remember that the Shiny Outbreaks are also ongoing during Chi-Yu's event. You can catch the following Pokemon at the same time:
- Charcadet: Paldea.
- Vulpix: Kitakami.
- Numel: Indigo Disc.
Catch them all, friends!
