Meltan is one of the most challenging Pokemon to evolve in Pokemon Go. Not only is the cost extremely high (400 candy), but getting those candies is harder than almost any other monster in the game. Being so difficult to attain makes Melmetal that much more appealing.

How To Get The Mystery Box Through Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu & Eevee
If you have a copy of Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu or Eevee, you can use the Mystery Box to get your hands on Melmetal.
You'll need to reach Fuchsia City in Let's Go to be able to connect the two games.
First, you’ll have to link your Pokemon Go account to the game. Head to Settings, then Connected Devices and Services, then select Nintendo Switch. You'll need Bluetooth enabled to do connect to Let's Go.
On Let's Go, go into Options on the main menu, then open the Pokemon Go settings. You'll be asked if you want to pair a Pokemon Go account with your game. Select yes. Your Pokemon Go Trainer name should appear, and you'll be asked if you want to receive a Pokemon. Select yes.
Select the Pokemon you want to transfer from Go to Let's Go.
You can't transfer the Pokemon back to Go once you've moved it to Let's Go, so make sure to choose one you don't need.
Head to Go Park in Fuschia City to receive the Pokemon. Once you've done so, the Mystery Box should appear in your Pokemon Go inventory.

PostsHow To Get The Mystery Box Through Pokemon Home
You can also receive the Mystery Box from Pokemon Home. First, you'll need to download the Pokemon Home app on your phone or mobile device. Connect your Home account to your Nintendo account. You'll now need to link your Pokemon Go account to the same Nintendo account linked to Home.
Head to Settings, Connected Devices and Services, and then into Pokemon Home. Click Sign in to Nintendo to log in to the account.
Once they're all connected, head back to Pokemon Home within the Pokemon Go Settings. Select Send Pokemon, and choose which Pokemon you want to send to Home.
You cannot transfer Pokemon back to Go after sending them to Home. Be sure you don't want them in Go before doing this.
If this is your first time sending Pokemon, your Go Transporter will be full of Go Transporter Energy, and you'll be able to transfer a Pokemon straight away. Confirm your selection and send the Pokemon to Home.
Now, you should have the Mystery Box in your inventory in Pokemon Go.
How To Use The Mystery Box In Pokemon Go
Open the Mystery Box in your inventory and Meltan will spawn around you for 30 minutes.
Use Pinap Berries to increase the candy you receive and catch as many as you can. Transfer extra Meltan to receive more candies.
The item is permanent, and you can repeat this process once a week until you have enough candies to evolve Meltan into Melmetal.
