You can challenge and defeat Mega Alakazam in exchange for Alakazam Mega Energy (needed to Mega Evolve Alakazam) and an encounter with Alakazam. Make sure to take advantage of this Raid rotation, as this is currently the only method to acquire Pokemon Go's latest debut.
Updated on March 29, 2023: Pokemon Go has decided to bring Mega Alakazam back into Mega Raids this month, giving you another opportunity to obtain this Pokemon's Mega Energy. With its initial release being months ago, there have been some substantial changes that have been made to the game, so we've updated this guide accordingly.
Recommended Group Size
Being a Mega Evolution, defeating Mega Alakazam in this Mega Raid is anything but an easy task. Due to this, it is recommended that you attempt to take on this Raid with at least three to five Trainers in your party.
Although it is possible to complete this Raid with a smaller party size, it would require using many powerful Pokemon that counter Mega Alakazam; something that is not guaranteed, especially when grouping up with those you are unfamiliar with.
For this reason, try to avoid going into this Raid with a smaller group, ensuring that you're not wasting your time and resources with failed attempts.
Mega Evolving or Primal Reverting a Pokemon in your battle party will prove to be extremely useful for this Raid, especially if you're attempting it with a smaller, less experienced group.
Doing this will power-up one of your Pokemon, boosting its attacks and others that match its specific type.
Mega Alakazam: Strengths And Weaknesses
You will want to keep the specific strengths and weaknesses of Mega Alakazam in mind when selecting Pokemon to be part of your Raid team.
As a Psychic-type, Mega Alakazam is resistant to and super effective against Fighting and Psychic-type Pokemon and attacks. Make sure that you avoid choosing Pokemon that are either of these types, avoiding vulnerability during this Raid battle.
As far as weaknesses go, Mega Alakazam is vulnerable to Bug, Dark, and Ghost-type Pokemon. To fully take advantage of this, make sure that your party consists of Pokemon of these three types.
Furthermore, you will want to make sure that their attacks match these types as well.
When using an attack that matches the type of your Pokemon, it will do increased damage. This is called Same Type Attack Bonus, or STAB, and is a common theme in Pokemon.

Mega Alakazam: Best Counter Picks
Due to its vulnerability to Bug, Dark, and Ghost-type Pokemon, you will want to make sure that you are battling with Pokemon of these three types. This will maximize your overall damage output and survivability, giving you and your allies the best chances of success.
To ensure that you are maximizing the damage that you are dealing during this Raid encounter, we have put together a list of recommended Pokemon and their ideal move set.
Although the following Pokemon provide you with the greatest advantage over Mega Alakazam, you can find success through the use of others that are Bug, Dark, or Ghost-Type Pokemon.
