PlayStation's next State of Play has been confirmed for January 31, this Wednesday. It will kick off at 5pm ET, and run for about 40 minutes.
For the past week, rumours on what games will be showcased at the next State of Play have been spreading online, including Death Stranding 2 and an unannounced Until Dawn re-release. The announcement for the State of Play says that more than 15 games will be shown off, with the only confirmed appearances being Stellar Blade and Rise of the Ronin.
Sony isn't giving away any other details, other than that the showcase will cover games coming to both PS5 and PS VR2. This means that the list of games rumoured to make an appearance at the State of Play could still be there. This would include Death Stranding 2 getting a new trailer, reportedly revealing that the game will be called Death Stranding 2: On the Beach.
Another title being floated around is Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, which makes sense as we get closer to its launch date. Rebirth is set to be with us on February 29, so this would be a great opportunity to drum up some last-minute hype.
Perhaps the strangest rumour we've seen spreading online is a remaster of Sonic Generations. Sure enough, it wouldn't be the first Sonic game to get a remaster, with 2021 giving us Sonic Colours: Ultimate, but I don't think many of us expected many games from this era in the series to get a re-release. This would be especially strange after Sega seemingly found a lot of success with Sonic Frontiers, which pushed the series in a different direction entirely. However, a remaster would be a great way to fill the gap between releases, and Generations is a popular enough Sonic game to pull this off with.
We'll have to wait and see if these rumours amount to anything. In any case, we know that we're getting more than 15 game reveals at the State of Play this Wednesday, so it will be jam-packed whatever happens.
PlayStation's State of Play will be live on YouTube, Twitch, and TikTok. It will kick off at 2pm PT/5pm ET/10pm GMT/11pm CET.
