PlayStation Portal In Stock And Staying That Way At PS Direct

The PlayStation Portal has been notoriously hard to find since before it had even launched in November of last year. Pre-orders sold out almost immediately, and then stock has been snatched up really fast everywhere the Portal has popped up since. Best Buy had the PS5 handheld companion device back in stock earlier this week, but it disappeared almost immediately. PlayStation now has the Portal back in stock at source, and for the first time, it hasn't sold out within minutes.
Now that I've said all that, what are the odds you click the link in the box below and the Portal is once again out of stock? Hopefully pretty slim, and that PlayStation either has enough of them, or demand has subsided enough, that the Portal is one step closer to being readily available whenever somebody decides they want one. I can confirm at the time of typing this at least that the Portal has been in stock for more than 12 hours, comfortably a new record for the device.

PostsStill priced at $199.99, the add to cart button is live, and clicking it will hopefully bring you one step closer to finally owning one. PlayStation released the Portal on November 15, 2023, and despite some being skeptical, the device has been a hit. When paired with your PS5, you can play the console's games in the palm of your hand. It's basically a DualSense that has been cut in half and a screen placed in the middle. It even boasts the same haptic feedback and adaptive triggers as the current-gen controller.

$200 at PlayStation Direct Expand CollapseSome were skeptical because they expected more from what is the closest thing to a PlayStation handheld since the Vita. Unlike the Vita and the PSP, the Portal isn't a standalone console that works all by itself. Not only do you need to own a PS5 for your Portal to function, but the PS5 needs to be turned on for the Portal to work, and the console can't be used for anything else while it is beaming whatever you're playing to your Portal.
The Portal is great for those who want to keep playing PS5 games while their TV is otherwise in use, or if you want to keep playing while you're in bed. The Pulse Explore Earbuds also released at the end of 2023 are a great accessory to pair with the Portal, but also costing $200, experiencing your PlayStation games in different, more immersive ways starts to get pretty expensive. PlayStation's Pulse Elite Headset also releases next week, capping off a busy few months for PS5 hardware.
