The penultimate guardian of the Yabbashah block of Tartarus in Persona 3 Portable, a few Magical Magus shadows stand between you and the completion of the block. And with a thorough strength against physical moves and the ability to use your ice magic to heal instead, it’s definitely not the easiest of your guardian fights.

But with so many teammates available to you beginning around the time of this fight to cover all kinds of elemental ground, you’ve got plenty of options for the fight. If you need some tips to take out Magical Magus in P3P, read on ahead below.
We keep our focus on the combat, but this guide may still contain slight spoilers for Persona 3 Portable.
Magical Magus Battle Setup
You'll encounter the Magical Magus guardian shadows on 98F of the Yabbashah block of Tartarus.
Recommended Party
With the Magical Magus weak to fire, both Junpei and Koromaru are good choices for this fight.
In addition to their Agi moves, Junpei knows great buff skills, while Koro-chan will learn Maragion at Lv. 38. If you can grind him to that point before the battle, you’ll have a multi-target fire move that deals medium damage at your disposal.
Round out the party with Mitsuru, who not only knows decent healing magic, but who has a resistance to ice as well.
Possibly one of Mitsuru’s best moves for this battle, though, will be Tentarafoo, which may inflict panic on all enemies. The Magical Magus shadows areincredibly susceptible to panic, so use the exploit where possible.
Recommended Level And Personas
With P3P’s Magical Magus guardians entering the fight at Lv. 38, we’d recommend being around Lv. 35 yourself before attempting the fight.
A helpful combination to have in your roster is a Persona to deal fire damage, as well as one immune to ice attacks. We went with Flauros and Sarasvati.
Flauros innately knows Maragi which can target the Magus’ fire weakness. In the event that they cast Makarakarn, use Sarasvati’s ice immunity to cast ice magic without worrying about the damage bouncing back to break down the barrier quicker.

Magical Magus Battle Strategy
For the most part, as long as you’re able to fend off the Magus’ high magic stat, the fight ought to go fairly quick.
The biggest thing to keep your eyes on as the Magical Magus shadows attack is being prepared against Mind Charge. Since this preemptive move doubles the damage of the next magic attack, and the shadows already have a high magic stat, any move boosted by Mind Charge is definitely going to hurt.
When the Magus shadows cast Mind Charge, you can use the time to heal, guard, or buff the team against the coming attack.
However, equipping Sarasvati will cancel ice damage done to the protagonist, regardless of how boosted the incoming ice attack is.
Be sure to prevent the team from attacking if the Magus shadows have Makarakarn up. With the next magic attacks guaranteed to reflect back at the team, save your SP and break it down with one of Sarasvati or Mitsuru’s ice attacks.
The fastest way to actually deal damage to the Magical Magus guardians is by using fire moves as your bread and butter. Koromaru and Junpei will likely carry the fight because of this, but their damage output is good enough to do so.
If you have the time to cast Tentarafoo, definitely take it – it’s not often that guardian shadows have such a weakness against an affinity, so use the opportunity while you can.
Not only will everyone be more likely to land critical hits (which knock down the enemy and offer you another attack), but you'll have an extra layer of safety between you and the high magic stat Mabufu and Bufudyne moves, if they're unable to use magic.
Keep your focus on multi-target fire moves to damage the Magical Magus shadows, and you’ll finish the fight with ease!
