These messages offer insight into the history surrounding the Palpagos Islands and the Syndicate Bosses that inhabit them. Memos are scattered all over the archipelago, so you'll need to search far and wide to get them all.

What Are Memos?
Memos are notes and journal entries you can find across the Palpagos Islands. There are 39 entries in total, though only 38 can be found in-game as of the Early Access release.
Each memo is a unique entry that sheds light onto the history of the archipelago from several different perspectives. They also provide more background information about the Syndicate Bosses you'll encounter in your journey.
Where To Find The Castaway's Journal Entries
The castaway is a strange and unknown figure who left notes behind that you can learn from. Each one reveals more of their journey as they uncover the secrets of the Pals and how they learn to survive on the islands.
