6 Things That Make No Sense In Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth

Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth is simultaneously one of the most grounded triple-A games in recent memory and a ridiculous melodramatic romp that forces you to suspend disbelief at every corner. Fans love this combination as it's what gives the series its trademark charm. It also results in a whole lot of things that simply don't make sense.

PostsIn the list below, we try to avoid low-hanging fruit like the idea of turn-based battles instead of real-time fights. Instead, we go for ideas found in the story, cutscenes, and some of the side content. Even though some parts of Infinite Wealth don't make sense, we wouldn't change it for the world.
There are some spoilers ahead. Nothing gives away the ending, but you should at least play until Chapter 9 before continuing if you don't want important details given away.
6 The Languages And Accents
How Much English Does Ichiban Kasuga Know? How Much Japanese Does Hawaii Know?
For the first time in the series' history, you spend the majority of your time in the USA. Hawaii, of course, is nothing like the continental United States, but it's also a lot different than Japan and a whole new world for Ichiban Kasuga. Kasuga doesn't know English, yet he doesn't seem to have a problem talking to people in Japanese, and people have little trouble understanding him.
Additionally, some of the characters who are supposed to be native English speakers have heavy Japanese accents when speaking English. If they had leaned heavier into making more characters speak English, it would have helped Kasuga feel more like a fish out of water.
The point about the accents mostly applies only if you're playing in Japanese. However, Dwight is still voiced by Danny Trejo when he speaks English in the Japanese voice track.
5 Okay, Some Of Those Attack Definitely Kill People
No One Could Take The Beatings Some Of These Characters Give
Both Kasuga and Kazuma Kiryu are strictly against killing people. That doesn't mean they are opposed to beating them to a pulp, however. We can excuse how badly people are beaten in gameplay since it's in the name of mechanics. However, there are still plenty of brutal beatdowns in cinematics.

Yakuza: Like A Dragon and Infinite Wealth each redefined the long-running series, but which one reigns supreme?
PostsHopefully, few people reading this have ever been in an honest fight, but you should know that one punch or one good kick is enough to put someone in the hospital or worse. Both the party and their enemies take hits that would put someone out of commission, but they keep going as if they are brushing dust off their shoulders.
4 Old Men Sure Know To Fight
There Are A Lot Of Geriatric Throwdowns
We don't want to sound ageist here, and plenty of older people are physically able. Infinite Wealth features many elderly people who not only fight but put up a challenge to Kasuga and the party. Bryce is potentially upwards of 90 years old, and there are plenty of older people who you fight throughout the story.
Kiryu himself is about 55 years old and still in unbelievable shape. Is it encouraging to see older people fight against others half their age, or is it just giving gamers unrealistic expectations about how the average person ages?
3 Yamai Is Literally Cold
Cold Personality Is A Given, But He's Freezing In Hawaii
Throughout the game, Yamai constantly complains about how cold he is despite wearing heavy clothes in the middle of a tropical island. There is even a scene where he is surrounded by flames and still complains about the low temperature. For a game that is generally more grounded and focused on human drama, this stands as a complete outlier.
It is ultimately resolved thematically by the end of his character arc, but until then, it makes no sense. For a while, you might think he has some sort of disease, but it has more to do with his unresolved past.
2 Miss Match Is Not How Online Dating Works At All
Online Dating Is Not A Minigame, And You Rarely Win
Heaven help anyone who has done the Miss Match substory and has yet to engage in online dating in the real world. We should do all we can to break the illusion for them and let them know that online dating is brutally unforgiving. Do not expect to get a date with everyone you match with or with everyone who messages you.

There's plenty to do in this tourist hot-spot.
PostsYou most definitely shouldn't expect to get a date with anyone by texting madly that you can't stop thinking about them and that you need to be close to them like Kasuga does.
It might work if you had the Kasuga's charm and charisma, but that's not humanly possible.
1 Does Bryce Fairchild Have Powers Or Not?
He's A False Sage, But He Still Seems Supernatural
Bryce Fairchild is the Sage of Palekana, but he is eventually revealed to be an imposter. Still, he pulls off some absurd feats throughout the game. For one, he somehow manages to make a gun pointed at his face backfire and blow out the shooter's eye. Then, there is the whole deal of him being 90 years old and still looking healthy and fit.
This would make the list if the real sage had such abilities, but it's doubly nonsensical when an imposter seemingly has magical powers. We suppose the answer being left up in the air is all a part of the mystery around Palekana.
