How To Find The Abraxas Puzzle Box

During the last scene of Chapter 1, Max visits the Caledon campus to speak with Safi's mom, Yasmin. You'll arrive in the North Quad, and if you walk past the Pergola on the left side, a cut scene with Reggie will trigger.

You'll watch him get upset with a puzzle box and throw it to the ground. When the cut scene is over, pick up the puzzle box and ask Reggie about it. He tells you it's an Abraxas Puzzle box meant to test a key Abraxas virtue called "The Eye For Detail".

The game will then put you in examine mode, where you can rotate the box and interact with it. From here you can try to solve it, or leave.

How To Solve The First Layer Of The Abraxas Puzzle Box

The first layer of the puzzle box is very simple to solve if you listen to Max's dialog cues.

As you rotate the box you can interact with three different faces of the box:

• The eye
• Thomas Caledon
• The crow

The eye does nothing important, but when you interact with the Thomas Caledon face, Max and Reggie will talk about how he's missing a bird, as on the statue he has two birds on his shoulder.

Rotate the box to the side with the bird and interact with it. Max will note that there's wax around the crow, and a new cut scene will start with Reggie using a lighter to melt the wax.

The medallion with the crow drops into Max's hand, then you'll go back to examine mode. Rotate the box back to Thomas Caledon and interact with it to place the bird on his empty shoulder.

The box opens, and a smaller box, the second layer of the puzzle, falls out. Reggie tells you to keep the box, and Max puts the box in her bag.

How To Solve The Second Layer Of The Abraxas Puzzle Box

You don't get another chance to examine the puzzle box till the last scene of Chapter 2, when Moses is waiting for you in the dark room. Before you head downstairs, go into the kitchen and the box is on the countertop by the sink.

The second layer of the Abraxas puzzle box is a bit trickier than the first. You can interact with many of the different faces of the box, but the only two that matter are the constellation face and the Abraxas logo face.

You won't be able to do anything with the dial yet, so rotate the box to the constellations and interact with that to get a closeup where you can manipulate the pegs.

Essentially what you want to do here is use the pegs to create points of a constellation.

Here's how to solve the constellation face:

• Move the first peg down two notches.
• Move the second peg down two notches.
• Move the third peg down one notch.
• Move the fourth peg down two notches.

A panel on the Sense Of Justice face opens up and a dial pops out. Take the dial, then rotate the box back to the Abraxas Logo face and attach the dial to it. Now you can examine this face and move the dials.

You can select either dial and rotate them either left or right, but the solution is much simpler than you might think. Leave the outer dial alone, and switch to the inner dial you just attached to the face. Then, turn the dial to the right two times.

Another panel will open up. Rotate the box to where the panel opened and remove the lid to reveal an Abraxas Society pin.

Solving the Abraxas puzzle box will unlock the Thinking Outside The Box trophy/achievement.

What Happens After You Solve The Abraxas Puzzle Box?

Honestly, the result of solving the puzzle box is a little anticlimactic. Max will attach the pin to her bag. Then, while you're in Admin talking to Vinh and Diamond during the third scene of Chapter 3, you'll get a text from an unknown number in Dead World, congratulating you on solving the puzzle box and welcoming you to Abraxas.

Max doesn't seem thrilled about it, though, and the only other time it comes up is at the Krampus party in Chapter 4, in the Living World. After conspiring with Safi, when you walk past the two kids in the corner by the pirate mural, one of them will shout out "ONE OF US!".
