Lego and Nintendo have been working together for almost four years, gradually transforming more and more of the Mushroom Kingdom into toy bricks. Earlier this week, Lego teased it would be announcing plans to expand on its Super Mario collection to celebrate Mario Day, and now we know exactly how that world is going to be expanded upon. By adding Lego Mario Kart sets to the mix in 2025.

Lego confirmed what's next for its Mario world the day before March 10, possibly because Mario Day itself was saved for some non-Lego announcements. Exactly what Lego's Mario Kart sets will look like hasn't been revealed. The teaser confirming their arrival in 2025 shows the unmistakeable outline of a Mario Kart under the Lego Super Mario logo, and Lego Mario himself briefly emerging from the shadows to make an appearance.

The teaser culminates with a message that reads "Ready, Set, Build! Racing in 2025" as the countdown sound that plays to signify the start of a Mario Kart race plays in the background. A long wait, but that likely means these sets are going to be pretty elaborate. Considering the interactive elements incorporated into Mario's current Lego sets, it seems likely fans might be able to actually drive these Karts around once they're built, Mario and other characters who have already been turned into Lego sitting inside and reacting to their surroundings accordingly.

The teaser revealing something Lego Mario-related would be announced this weekend had mystery characters interrupting a presentation, some guessing Wario and Waluigi sets might be introduced. It turns out the "they" the presenter was referring to were Mario Karts barging in. That doesn't mean the exciting new expansion won't include Wario and Waluigi. If the Lego Mario Kart sets are going to be exhaustive, they may include the two villains and an array of other characters to have been in Mario Kart games.

Launching in 2025, Lego's Mario Kart sets could also be slated to launch at the same time as the next Mario Kart game. Nintendo still hasn't officially confirmed when its Switch successor will be here, but if it launches in Q1 2025 as rumored, and the next Mario Kart game releases along with it, matching Lego sets would likely sell better than would at any other time.
