Resonance in Last Epoch is used to gift any item to your friends even if they were not a part of the session when it dropped. It may feel like an extra step compared to other ARPGs such as Path of Exile with a simple trade mechanic, but the system incentivizes people to play together.

PostsResonance is further divided into two categories: Golden Resonance and Obsidian Resonance. Golden Resonance is needed to gift Normal, Magic, Rare, Unique, or Set items. Obsidian Resonance, on the other hand, is required to gift Exalted or Legendary items.
How To Get Obsidian Resonance
Before we begin, it's important to note that it can take a long time before your first Resonance drops. However, there are a few things you can do to speed up the process, especially if you are chasing Obsidian Resonance.
You earn Resonance by simply playing with friends. This does not mean that you can go AFK in a town while in a party. You must be slaying enemies that give any amount of XP for the Resonance to drop. There is no need to actively participate in clearing but make sure that you are in the same zone and somewhat close to everyone in the session.
Since you continue to earn XP even after reaching Level 100, you should always be building progress toward the Resonance. Also, it is not tied to the amount of XP you earn, so you can farm Acts if you want, but we do not recommend it.
It is also important to note that your progress toward the Resonance persists through sessions until a Resonance type is acquired. The playtime needed to drop a Resonance is not made clear as it is slightly RNG-based. For example, we got our first Obsidian Resonance after a total of six Golden Resonances.
Farming the Empowered Monoliths on high Corruption (around 400+) and Arena are generally recommended for not only getting LP Exalted items, but also Obsidian Resonance.
How To Gift Items
Once you have found Obsidian Resonance that resonates with a specific friend, you will be able to gift them any Legendary or Exalted item of your choice. You can do this by opening up your inventory and selecting the Gifting option.
In the new sub-menu, you will see a complete list of your friends and the amount of Resonance (Golden and Obsidian) you have with them. Now simply select the item that you want to gift and confirm the transfer. Before you commit, be sure to keep these things in mind:
- Resonance is consumed upon gifting, so make sure to use it on something worthwhile.
- Even if you gift something, the receiver must meet the Faction requirements. An item from the Circle of Fortune cannot be used by someone in the Merchant’s Guild and vice versa.
- If a desired item is dropped in an instance where every party member was present, it can be gifted directly without the need to spend Resonance.
- Resonance is only useful when the receiver was not present in the instance where the desired item was dropped.
- An alternate way of giving your friends an item is to list it for zero gold in the Merchant’s Guild. Your friend will need to pay the required Favor fee, and it does carry a little risk, since someone else can always snipe the item first.
