In the past, the world of Luma Island was filled with creatures named Luma, and they used their magical powers to help out those who lived on the island. In current times, they seem to have completely disappeared, and no one's sure what happened to them or where they went.

To make things more mysterious, there are plenty of ruins left by those ancient peoples, but they don't seem to hint at where the Luma went either – or do they? There might just be a way to bring them back to the island and even get their help, but you'll have to delve deep into those ruins to find out.

How To Get A Luma Egg

Before you can get yourself your first Luma, you'll need to go through the Ancient Farm Temple which is located at the upper center of your farm, to the right of the entrance into town.

Make sure you complete the tutorial missions enough to earn the Copper Whip before going inside, as it's required for a handful of rooms.

It has twelve rooms you need to progress through in one go, and each one requires you to either pass through, evade traps, or kill the enemies in the room to open the door to the next one.

  • When hit by minor enemies such as Bats, they'll make you drop a few of your items, but you can pick them back up as soon as they're dropped.
  • When hit by traps like the fire-breathing statues, they'll make you drop a few of your items and return to the entrance of the room, but you can still get your items back and continue.

Each room gives you a ladder for a quick escape, but choosing to leave in the middle of the challenge will make you lose your obtained items in that run, and you'll have to repeat the dungeon from the beginning.

Make sure you break all the barrels and vases in each room, as they contain helpful loot like Tool Tokens, Resin, Lost Spirits, and Sand.

Room 1

Use the Copper Whip to hit the switch across the gap.

Contains a locked door on the left that's only accessible if you have the Archaeologist Profession. Contains the Broken Yucatali Bracelet and Broken Yucatali Crown.

Room 2

Use the Copper Whip to kill the bat.

Room 3

Avoid the flame traps on the walls.

Room 4

Flip the switch by the entrance, then head to the door once the wall is down.

Room 5

Dodge the initial set of traps, then use the Copper Whip to take down either spider web blocking the path, then avoid the last set of traps by the door.

Breaking spider webs also gives you the extremely useful Spider Silk item, which is otherwise only obtained by killing Spiders in the Farm Caves.

Room 6

Use the Copper Whip to kill both bats.

Room 7

Exit through the door to the right to the eighth room.

Contains the Ancient Farmer's Door, which is opened by giving it three Wheat, three Grapes, and ten Earth Spirits.

Room 8

Go around to the right side of the fire-breathing statue, and turn it to the north, then go around to the left side, and turn it to the east.

Room 9

Avoid the two sets of wall traps.

Room 10

Use the Copper Whip on the spider web blocking the way, then avoid the wall traps.

Room 11

Wait for the flame traps to shoot, then run down either side, quickly rotate the fire-breathing statue, and run back to the entrance. Repeat the process for the other side, then exit through the door.

Room 7 (Part 2)

Collect the Ancient Book from the previously inaccessible part of room seven, then go down the stairs to the next door.

Room 12

Collect the Ancient Homestead Key from the ground, then go forward and open the chest at the end.

The final Orange Chest in the room will contain a variety of loot, such as Tool Tokens, but most importantly, you'll receive a Mysterious Egg from it, one of the two key ingredients for hatching a Luma.

All Possible Luma And Their Eggs

There are 15 different Luma you can collect throughout the game, and each one can be found in one of 15 locations, with two available from the Farm, and then another four each from both the Forest and the Mountain, and then the final five coming from the Jungle.

The egg you'll get from each Orange Chest is randomly chosen, but you can use the appearance of the egg you receiveto determine and hint at which of the 15 Lumayou'll be getting.

You can restart your game to find a particular Luma if you don't like your initial one, but all of them are available in a single playthrough if you unlock all four Shrines and complete all 11 temples.

You also won't receive any duplicate Luma from Orange Chests, only whichever eggs are left in the pool of available Luma.

It is possible to get more of any Luma you've previously obtained by repairing the Pet Shop though, and purchasing more eggs for 20,000 Gold each.

How To Hatch A Luma

Now that you've got your Mysterious Egg, the next thing you'll need is the Luma Incubator, and its drawing can be purchased from Balthazar's shop for 500 Gold.

You don't have to complete the Profession introduction quests to buy the Luma Incubator, but it helps to have enough Gold ready to purchase the drawings from doing them.

How To Obtain Materials

Luma Incubator

Farm Leather x5

Copper Bar x3

Fabric x5

Glass x5

Crafted from Farm Mushrooms in a Simple Workbench.

Crafted from Copper Ore and Charcoal in an Ore Smelter.

Crafted from Cotton in a Simple Workbench.

Crafted from Sand in a Kiln.

At the Luma Incubator, you'll have six recipes to choose from: five types of Luma Life, each of which takes 250 of a type of Spirit, and then the Mysterious Creature, which needs one Luma Life of any type, and the Mysterious Egg.

Put both your chosen Luma Life and the Mysterious Egg in the Luma Incubator after selecting the recipe, and after around 30 seconds in real-time, your Luma will finish incubating and hatch.

While you can purchase Luma Nest drawings from Balthazar's shop already, you don't need them until you have two or more Lumas.

As you hatch more Luma, the cost of crafting a Luma Life will slowly increase, such as requiring around 1,500 of any Soul by the time you're hatching your 12th Luma.

What Do Luma Do?

Whichever Luma you get will be automatically assigned to the Helper slot in your menu, unless you already have a Luma, or you've picked the Treasure Hunter Profession and have a dog. In that case, it willgo into one of your inventory spots instead.

You can obtain the very important Luma Energy material from your Lumas, which is used for mid-to-late game upgrades and the vast majority of Profession-related crafting recipes once you get past the initial few recipes in each one.

You can get two Luma Energy per day per Luma: one comes from petting them, and the other comes from feeding them Luma Food.

Once you've got a Luma, they can help you find hidden treasure chests by alerting you to their location by standing over the spot where you dig and making noises.

How To Care For Luma

As you get more Luma, you'll want to invest in building Luma Nests, which allow you to store two, four, or eight Luma, depending on which of the three sizes you build.

Luma Nest Type

Drawing Cost

Materials Needed

Small Luma Nest

500 Gold

Farm Wood Planks x25

Farm Stone Blocks x25

Silk Rope x5

Fern Leaf x25

Hay x25

Medium Luma Nest

750 Gold

Mountain Wood Planks x15

Mountain Stone Blocks x15

Silk Rope x10

Fern Leaf x25

Fiber x10

Large Luma Nest

1,000 Gold

Jungle Wood Plank x10

Jungle Stone Block x15

Silk Rope x15

Fern Leaf x25

Fiber x25

These nests will hold non-helper Luma for you while allowing them to roam around an area, and give you easy access to petting and feeding them to obtain Luma Energy without needing to constantly swap helpers around.

Once you've got any Luma in a nest, you'll also want to fence them in so they don't wander away and put down a Feeding Trough, which costs five Farm Wood Logs, one Copper Bar, and 50 Hay to craft.

Like with farm animals, it can automatically feed any nearby Lumas if you stock them with Luma Food.
