Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2 - The Sith Lords is one of the best games ever made. That is what weirdos like me will tell you whenever you bring up liking KOTOR back in the day, but trust us, we have a point. Obsidian's follow-up to the BioWare classic is criminally overlooked, but it's understandable why: it was pretty much unfinished when it launched in 2004.

Thankfully, fans dove in and gave us The Sith Lords Restored Content Modification - a mod so big that it has its own Wikipedia page. This made a whole lot of cut content available in-game, fixed bugs, and most crucially, gave us what is arguably the best story arc in the game (l love you, Atton Rand).

This mod is so essential to the experience that when KOTOR 2 came to the Nintendo Switch in 2022, developer Aspyr promised that it would be added in as DLC post-launch. This never happened, and the DLC was eventually cancelled (leading to a lawsuit that didn't appear to go anywhere).

The Best Way To Play KOTOR 2 Is Available On Nintendo Switch

Now, at long last, the cancelled DLC is available on Switch, but there's a catch. Since it's released unofficially, you'll have to figure out how to mod your console, which is apparently a lot easier if it's on the older side.

It looks like all of the content is there, thanks to the efforts of modders GloriousCheese and Vertania. The port doesn't come from the Restored Content Mod devs, but the files do include the latest version available on PC.

Of course, this is a huge win for anyone with the know-how and who wants to play KOTOR 2 in its best state on the go. It is a shame that the official release was left unfinished, but at the very least, there is a way to get the restored content on Switch right now.

If you have a Steam Deck, you can pick up KOTOR 2 and then download the Restored Content Mod through Steam Workshop.

Over the years, KOTOR fans have been a patient lot. The KOTOR Remake that was announced in 2021 has been AWOL ever since, which means we're far off from that ever materialising, and even further from KOTOR 2 getting the remake treatment it deserves. Still, you should play the original release anyway. Trust me, it's very, very good.
