The Whole Final Fantasy 7 Remake Trilogy Will Have Released Before We Get Kingdom Hearts 4
Now that Final Fantasy 7 Revelation has been announced and set for a Spring 2027 release, we know for sure that we've had a whole FF7 remake trilogy before Kingdom Hearts 4.
Back when Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth released in 2024 and the Kingdom Hearts fanbase hadn't been given an update on the mainline fourth game in just under two years, there was a very common joke that we'd get the whole FF7 remake trilogy before Kingdom Hearts 4. Oh, how we all laughed and laughed as we waited for the next trailer that was surely right around the corner.
Cut to two years later, and it's not looking quite as funny anymore. We've had very little updates on Kingdom Hearts 4 in that time and certainly no second trailer while, as of last night, the third and final part of the Final Fantasy 7 remake trilogy has been confirmed and set for release next year. That means the ridiculous prophecy we all joked about is sadly coming true.
Yep, We're Really Getting Three Final Fantasy 7 Remakes Before Kingdom Hearts 4
Forget Things Before GTA 6, This Is The Real Tragedy
As Kingdom Hearts fans do for every single showcase, there was some hope that KH4 might show up with a new trailer at last night's Summer Game Fest. After all, Dragon Quest 12 managed to get a big new update just a few weeks ago, and we've had constant updates on Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3's updates over the years, so it didn't seem that far-fetched.
x Your browser does not support the video tag.Sadly, that didn't end up happening, even when Geoff made a pointed comment about hearts that was somehow for Attack on Titan 3. Instead, Square Enix ended the show with the announcement of Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, which was not only given a good deep dive, but also a release window of Spring 2027.
As pointed out by Twitter user thegamersjoint, that means unless Kingdom Hearts 4 somehow gets shadowdropped before then (it won't, obviously), we've had a full Final Fantasy 7 remake trilogy release before Kingdom Hearts 4. That's right, Square Enix has remarkably managed a massive remake project of one of its most iconic RPGs while Keyblade Masters beg for even the slightest crumb of news.
I am at least seeing some people take FF7 Revelation's release date as a good sign for Kingdom Hearts 4. With that out of the way, all eyes are surely going to be on Sora's next game.
Things get even worse when you realise that Rebirth released and Revelation got announced without Kingdom Hearts 4 getting as much as a second trailer. The most we've had are a few screenshots to make up for Missing Link's cancellation, a brief anniversary message from Nomura that came a day late, and far too much hope for things to change. At least it can only get better from here, right?
