Summary

  • Kingdom Hearts 4 just had its biggest news drop in three years thanks to seven new screenshots.
  • Those screenshots include Sora fighting against Heartless in Quadratum.
  • It's not even been a day and fans have already figured out where in Shibuya the location is based on.

Kingdom Hearts fans only just got new screenshots of Kingdom Hearts 4 a few hours ago, but they've already discovered where in Shibuya Sora's fight against the Heartless is based on.

Since Kingdom Hearts 4 was first announced, the most interesting thing about it has been its setting. Following the events of Kingdom Hearts 3 where Sora basically dies to save Kairi, he ends up in a realistic world called Quadratum that's unlike anything else we've ever seen in the series before, outside of its brief Verum Rex debut.

There's a lot that we don't know about Quadratum so far, but the one thing that's been made clear is that it's inspired by Shibuya in Tokyo, something that Nomura has confirmed to be the case. Back when the first trailer was released, fans were even able to find out where Sora's apartment is based on, and that energy has already been applied to the latest info dump.

Kingdom Hearts 4's New Screenshots Show Off How Close Quadratum Is To Shibuya

And A Familiar Bridge Even Makes A Return

Earlier today, Square Enix decided to dull the pain of cancelling Missing Link out of nowhere by finally giving us an update on Kingdom Hearts 4. That update included a bunch of new screenshots, with the main centrepiece of it all being a fight between Sora and some unfamiliar Heartless in the streets of Quadratum.

While anyone unfamiliar with Shibuya might just assume that this is a random street and not based on anywhere in particular, eagle-eyed fans have already figured out where this location in Quadratum is inspired by. Twitter user Genki_JPN pointed out that the screenshot appears to take place in a location that's inspired by Shibuya Sakura Stage.

The circular bridge in the background of the fight might be familiar if you've watched the Kingdom Hearts 4 trailer a bunch, as it's the one that Sora falls through in his fight against the massive Heartless. That, or it's just a common bridge in Quadratum.

Looking at the two areas side by side makes it very clear that the area in Quadratum is meant to be a recreation of Shibuya Sakura Stage. Funnily enough, Twitter user GearoidReidy pointed out that one of the buildings in that area is actually the Square Enix office, which is very meta to think about. Either way, it's clear once again where Quadratum's inspirations lie.
