After seven years of development, Warhorse Studios’ Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 was finally released in February 2025. The game greatly builds upon everything that was enjoyable about its predecessor, doubling down on all the RPG and immersive-sim elements in particular. Combat, NPC interactions, and other game mechanics are also enhanced, as are its technical capabilities and overall polish.

Set in a medieval world with your usual elves, goblins, dwarves, and dragons, the Dragon’s Dogma series has a standout Pawn system that lets you pick AI companions that are often created by other players.

Classes play a big role in this one, and there’s a very good amount of gameplay variety based on the selected class and the role-specific weapons and gear. Like Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, the world is dynamic and lively. While some mechanics like the weight system affecting stamina and movement speed, and limited fast travel and save systems may be divisive, they do make the game more rewarding.

Obsidian’s Pillars of Eternity duology is a spiritual successor to Planetscape: Torment and Baldur’s Gate and features the world of Eora. This isometric RPG really highlights the studio’s best characteristic - the dialogue writing. The party-based combat and narrative are solid, and both of the entries in the series are great.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 fans who crave another in-depth story with branching paths will love the classic formula on display here. Created with great depth and attention to detail, both titles are well worth a look.

Pentiment shares a lot of DNA with Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, namely being based on real history and being grounded in reality. Obsidian’s 2D RPG is meticulously researched and detailed. Featuring no voice acting, the writing and roleplaying elements are the most compelling part of the game.

There are a lot of historical figures that you can interact with which really immerses you in that era, and all of its positives and negatives. The game can even be considered a bit of an educational experience.

Baldur’s Gate 3 took the gaming world by storm in 2023, far surpassing even the high expectations that come from a Larian Studios RPG. Set in the world of Dungeons & Dragons and being a sequel to the BioWare-developed classics, the amount of choices and consequences is colossal.

The Witcher 3 has you playing as Geralt of Rivia in a medieval setting that’s filled with monsters of all kinds. Just like Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, the game has a fixed protagonist, which lends itself to greater storytelling capabilities.

Since you’re playing as a definitive character with a set background and history with other NPCs, the character development here can be more extensive as your choices have an actual impact on the NPCs. This also allows for a much more narrative-driven experience, and you explore similar biomes such as towns, cities, and forests between both games, making it easy to recommend this one.

Divinity: Original Sin 2 builds upon all the previous entries in the Divinity series, and might just be the best one in it. You can choose from an interesting cast of pre-made characters, each with their unique abilities and role in the game’s world and story, or just create your own.

As the precursor to Baldur’s Gate 3, it shares a lot of similarities with that game, but stands on its own in just enough ways to make it a separate, worthwhile experience. There are a lot of genuine exploration elements that Kingdom Come fans are sure to enjoy.

Oblivion takes place in the lush greenery of the province of Cyrodiil. It lets you loose in a vast open world with plenty of interesting characters and side quests, much like Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2.

The orchestral music is stellar and makes the game even more immersive. While the game may have aged a bit graphically, the art direction and gameplay mechanics hold up really well.

Dishonored is another historical game, although it is set in an alternate-reality Victorian era rather than a Medieval one. It’s not a dialogue choice-based game like Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, but instead focuses on choices and consequences via its immersive-sim gameplay.

If the realistic and slow-but-steady combat of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is what you enjoy the most, then Chivalry 2 should be right up your alley as it offers one of the most similar first-person, medieval combat systems out there. It’s a little different, but complements the game very well.

Being a multiplayer game, it has large-scale battles and really lets you go all out with other players. The combat system is pretty deep and leads to some fun and engaging battles, including sieges and raids. The game focuses on authentic combat over almost everything else, and fans of that aspect will really like this game, although the physics system sometimes gets in the way of that. Nonetheless, it’s a really fun time.

It’s hard not to recommend Fallout: New Vegas if the RPG elements are your favorite part of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. This game, similarly, has some stellar character work and dialogues, with a decent amount of wacky and absurd choices, should you decide to go that way.

It's set in the Wild West-inspired post-apocalyptic world of The Mojave Wasteland, and you play as a courier on a revenge quest. You come across various factions and towns, and your choices have an impact on the game's in-depth reputation system, much like with Kingdom Come. You won't find as many swords here, but the guns can often be just as clunky as Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2's.
