Kunitsu-Gami: Path Of The Goddess - Renge Marsh Walkthrough

The Seethe of Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess is closely associated with the toxic miasma they are surrounded by when they emerge from the corrupted Torii gates each night. Usually, this works as a protective layer for them, hurting Soh and the Villagers if they're too near the gate itself.

PostsUntil you reach Renge Marsh, of course. Suddenly there are toxic pools all around you and the barest amount of solid land for you to navigate. This makes the level quite a challenge when any misstep deals damages to Soh and the Villagers. This guide will help you make it through safely to the next dawn.
Recommended Set-Up For Soh And The Villagers
Villager Set-Up
Across both sections of Renge Marsh, you will find a total of eight Villagers to assist you. The majority will be found in the first section and all of them are quite close to the many defilements so they won't prove too difficult to find.
Here are the Roles we recommend for them:
- One Woodcutter, and one Spearman to handle melee units.
- One Archer, and two Marksmen to handle enemies in the toxic pools.
- One Sumo Wrestler to keep enemies away from Yoshiro, one Ascetic to slow those enemies, and one Shaman to keep everyone healed.
A major obstacle to deal with in Renge Marsh is the complete lack of space for you and the Villagers to move around in. As such, you'll want to be quite tactical with your placements for maximum efficiency.
One of the optional objectives is to not use any Rations, so make sure your Villagers will survive wherever they're placed, and take great advantage of the Shaman's healing.
Since the Seethe can freely navigate in the toxic pools, this makes multiple ranged units essential. Thankfully, Renge Marsh is extremely flat so your ranged units will always have a line-of-sight on the Seethe.
Soh Set-Up
Due to the ease with which the Seethe can navigate Renge Marsh, Soh will have to make up for the lack of mobility afforded to the Villagers. As such, surviving the toxic pools will be tantamount to Soh and Yoshiro's success.
Here's the build we used to complete this mission
Item
Name
Description
Tsuba Guard 1
Kochin's Ward
Creates a barrier around Soh that stops enemy attacks and damages those that touch it.
Tsuba Guard 2
Genbu's Might
This creates a highly damaging attack around Soh that ripples outwards for a second strike, dealing high Resist Gauge Depletion.
Tsuba Guard 3
Seiryu's Gale
Soh summons a whirlwind above them, attacking any flying and particularly tall enemies.
Mazo Talisman 1
Deva
Slightly raises Soh's attack power
Mazo Talisman 2
Divine Favor
Reduces the damage Soh takes from toxic pools.
Mazo Talisman 3
Orochi
Reduces the number of Crystals needed to change Roles on Villagers by 15.
Dance Style
Oka Dance
Gives Soh more powerful but less mobile attacks.
Oka Dance Upgrade
Oka Form 3
Allows the Dance Attack after the second Regular Attack to be charged for higher damage and Resist Gauge depletion.
Archery Upgrade
Spider Shot
Fires an arrow that deals both high damage and Resist Gauge depletion.
One of the optional objectives for this mission is to not let Soh take any damage from toxic pools. This requires a different build, so we would exchange Divine Favor and Spider Shot with Crow-Billed Tengu and Pinnacle Shot respectively. This will award the Vindictive Survivor Mazo Talisman.
Divine Favor will allow Soh to actually survive a brief stint in the toxic pools so they can track down enemies before they get a chance to come near Yoshiro. Spider Shot is great for slowing down enemies, giving Soh and the Villagers extra time to reach and defeat them.
In terms of Tsuba Guards, Kochin's Ward is always essential. This can easily block the ranged attacks of Gotaimen and the explosions and toxic pools of the newly-introduced Dojoyogoshi. Seiryu's Gale can easily defeat the many flying enemies, while Genbu's Might is a safe all-arounder.
Where To Find Every Defilement In Renge Marsh's First Section
There are a total of 13 defilements to be found across both sections of Renge Marsh. Seven of them are found in the first section, while the remaining six are found in the second. We've split the sections in two to allow you to more easily track which defilements you may be missing.
Defilement 1-4
CloseThese four defilements can all be found quite close to each other.
- The first can be found on the first small island to the north of the entrance.
- The second can be found right beside the smaller corrupted Torii gate.
- The third will be just south of that on a small island.
- The fourth defilement will be on the larger island south of the third defilement or directly east of the first one.
Defilement 5-6
CloseThese two defilements can be found in the central south of the map. The first will be found on the large island near the smaller corrupted Torii gate, while the second will be just west of it on another island south of the entrance.
Defilement 7
CloseThis defilement can be found just north of the large corrupted Torii gate on a small island with the shrine just ahead of it.
After you've purged all the defilements, you may continue on to the shrine to acquire the Cursed Mudra Mazo Talisman as a reward.
Where To Find Every Defilement In Renge Marsh's Second Section
The second section of Renge Marsh has only six defilements to find, though they are also slightly more well-hidden and will at times put Soh's own health in jeopardy.
Defilement 1-2
CloseThe first defilement is found just north of the entrance on the island connected by a wooden bridge with a buried treasure chest in front of it. The second will be north of that on the piece of land by a sunken gate.
Defilement 3
CloseThis defilement is found at the back of the sunken house in the middle of the toxic pools in the northern section of the map.
Defilement 4
CloseThis defilement is found inside the house in the northern sections of the map. This defilement cannot be reached without stepping into the toxic pools.
This particular defilement cannot be purged without failing the optional objective for Soh to avoid toxic pools,
Defilement 5-6
CloseThese defilements are found in the central section of the map and to the south. The first will be found beside a destroyed Taiko Drum, while the second will be just south of that on an isolated island.
With all of those defilements purged, you may visit the shrine to be rewarded with the Laughing Baboon Mazo Talisman.
Tips For Completing Renge Marsh
General Tips
As is the case with every mission, Yoshiro and the Carpenter should never be left idle. Make sure to carve a decent amount of the Spirit Path as soon as the mission begins so that you can perform your other tasks while Yoshiro slowly does her own.
The same is true of the Carpenter, as many of the contraptions take quite a while to repair.
Due to the fact that the Villagers cannot walk in most of Renge Marsh, the marksman towers become essential for catching enemies before they reach Yoshiro.
A new enemy introduced in this level is the Dojoyogoshi which functions much like a Hozukime while also leaving behind a toxic pool if you don't defeat them. Prioritise defeating them so that the little walking space you have isn't worn down even more.
First Section Tips
Yoshiro will not be able to reach the corrupted Torii gate on the first night, so you'll want to make sure she's stopping in the Spirit Ward along the way. This will give her some extra protection against the Seethe, even if she's only barely within its radius.
One of the optional objectives is to prevent any harm coming to Yoshiro, and taking advantage of the Spirit Wards and Kochin's Ward will be essential in achieving this.
It costs a total of 842 Crystals to carve the Spirit Path to the corrupted Torii gate, so make sure not only that you have enough to carve the path, but enough left over to put your Villagers into their respective Roles as well.
Second Section Tips
Once you enter the second section, you will be met with an immediate roadblock - the bridge is broken. This must be repaired before Yoshiro can proceed onwards, so get it repaired as quickly as possible.
You likely won't be able to repair it before night falls, so keep your Villagers near Yoshiro so she isn't assaulted on all sides.
There's another bridge by the corrupted Torii gate as well, though you should be able to repair this one at a much more leisurely pace.
Carving the Spirit Path here will cost close to 1,000 Crystals so you may need to let the night fall so you have enough to actually complete it.
With Renge Marsh completed, you are free to challenge Notsugo. Congratulations, and good luck with the remainder of your journey.
