Judgment: Complete Friend Guide

Kamurocho has always been home to a never-ending supply of weird and wonderful citizens that need help solving their problems and the folks in Judgment are no different. In Judgment, instead of dedicated sub-stories, Yagami can either solve cases or make friends with locals who will then ask him to do favours for them.

There are a lot of friends to meet in this game, some are gated behind story progression, and many are behind eating food at restaurants or buying items at one of the many shops. This guide will show you where to find them all and also try to help with some of the more mechanically demanding missions.

Updated on April 17, 2023, by Axel Bosso: You can bond with a lot of people in Judgment. While playing through the main story, Yagami can become quite a popular figure. We got back to this guide to update it and make it fit our current style and formatting standards. We hope you have fun making friendships, and knowing the coffee test answers beforehand.

Makoto Tsukumo

The first friend you will meet is Makoto Tsukumo, the game’s story will make sure you interact with him early on, and you will fully bond with him by just following the main story and buying him a figurine during Chapter 1.

Haoyu Xiu

From here on out you can make friends with many of the locals whenever you want, but we would strongly recommend getting pally with Haoyu Xiu at Akaushimaru on Tenkaichi Street. This is because to start many of these friendship quests you will have to sit and eat at a restaurant, however, the game will only let you do this if you are “hungry” (your health bar isn’t full).

It can be a pain to wait for thugs to spawn, just so they can beat the crap out of you, so make this friendship first as he will give you the Bottomless Stomach guide as a reward. This unlocks the Bottomless Stomach skill, which for 5,000 SP will allow you to eat at restaurants even when full.

His friendship quest is very easy, order there once and talk to him about his experiences as a Chinese Migrant. You will then have to leave for a bit and come back (that will be a recurring theme), a cutscene will trigger, and when the game asks you what Xiu is trying to say answer “Someone ate and then booked it?”. Chase down the dine-and-dasher, and you have yourself your second friend.

Masakazu Nekomiya

You can first meet Masakazu in Nakamichi Alley in Chapter 2. He has taken an interest in the local strays and needs your help to make sure they are ok. When you find these cats you will first have to interact with them and then take a picture of them, and send it to Nekomiya.

• The first cat is near Yagami’s office, turn east outside the front door and head down the street then go north as soon as you can and the little calico is chilling there staring at a wall.
• The tabby cat is in the Little Asia court, you can enter by hoping the fence on East Millennium Street. Once you walk to the centre of the court a small cutscene will play, fly the drone up and the tabby cat is sitting atop some scaffolding.
• The final cat can be found at the corner of Pink Street and East Showa Street. You will see a woman staring at this little fella, so go say hi and take a picture when you are done.

Ebisu Pawn Owner, Fukutsu

The friendship with Fukutsu can only be triggered once you find one of the five abstract Fuka Shiranui paintings. We recommend grabbing the one you get for becoming Morio Onodera’s friend in the sewers as it’s the easiest. After this, you can trade the rest of the paintings with the Ebisu Pawn Owner to raise your friendship.

But be aware, some of these will take a fair bit of work on your part:

• Suzuran: Buy off of Onodera in the sewers for 500 SP.
• Sakura: Complete the Middle VR Course with over five dice.
• Tsubaki: Purchase at L’Ament casino after earning 5,000 chips.
• Botan: Purchase at the Dragon Palace Casino’s second floor for 5,000 chips.
• Ume: Purchase at the Dragon Palace Casino’s third floor for 5,000 tags.

Poppo Shops: Alice Ino, Sota Nonamura, Kyoshiro Asamura, And Dwayne Cruise

These final friends are some of the easiest and can be found at the different Poppo shops across Kamorocho with friend markers on the map:

• Alice Ino: The Poppo shop on Showa Street.
• Sota Nonamura: The Poppo shop on East Shichifuku.
• Kyoshiro Asamura: The Poppo on West Shichifuku Street.
• Dwayne Crusie: The Poppo on Tenkaichi Street.

They’ll be holding a deal where if you spend ¥‎7,000 at the store you will receive a vinyl record and become friends with the clerk at the store.

Kenta Uozumi

Poor put upon Kenta, he really should be working a different job, but until then Yagami will help and make a new friend in exchange. Keep eating at Sushi Gin on West Showa Street to trigger three events where you will have to tell Kenta the answers to some basic Sushi questions.

• Question one: Tea
• Question two: Soy sauce
• Question three: The sushi plates, man.

After that eat there one more time, and you’ll have a new bestie and a new salmon dish to try.

Hane Ida

Takayuki Yagami is based on the real-world idol and actor Takuya Kimura, and you’ll have to channel some of his photogenic skills for this friendship. Hane Ida works at the Smile Burger on Northwest Theater Square and becoming her friend is easy.

Simply order from the fast food joint, take a selfie with herwhen she asks afterward, leave the area for a bit, return to take another selfie, and leave again. When you return to her for the third time she will have some good news for you, will become your friend, and let you order from Smile Burger’s secret menu.

Mami Sakuma

Hope you have a sweet tooth. This friendship is quick and easy, simply go to the M Side Café in the Millennium Tower, and order all the cakes at the café.

After you eat all the desserts a detective could handle Mami will ask you about their baking. Leave and let some time pass and when you return; you will become friends and get access to the Mega Fruit Tart if you can handle any more sugar.

Naotaro Terahara

Before you can befriend Terahara first you will have to spend some money at his expensive clothes shop, Le Marche. Buy the cheapest thing you can and leave, then come back after some time passes.

You will raise your bond with him by visiting three times, but be aware that you will have to teach a rowdy customer some manners the second time you visit. Once you return for the third time, you will have a new friend on E. Showa Street and a swanky new suit disguise.

Fumio Matsuzaki

Making friends with Matsuzaki is pretty easy, you just need to go to Kanrai, just off East Shichifuku Street, and order anything. Leave and return later; when you do, you can take his quiz. The first answer is “Small intestine”, the second is “Stomach”, and the third is “Flank”, leave and let some time pass.

Return to Kanrai later and prevent the waiter-turned-quiz-master from getting his ass handed to him. Once you have done will have made a new friend and can now order a special steak off the menu.
