Before diving into the world, you may have some hesitation. Here, we are going to help you decide if Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader is the right game for you. This includes a review, time expenditure, costs, and what fellow gamers think about Rogue Trader. In the end, you should feel confident in deciding if the game is personally worth it.

Review

Here at TheGamer, Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader was reviewed by Matt Arnold. Overall, he gave the game a 4/5, with praise given for the combat, mood, and episodic feel. Of course, Rogue Trader is set in a war-torn era, so combat is frequent and necessary.

With turn-based combat, a variety of weapon skills, and a variety of unique archetype skills, a battle can be a complex and rewarding experience.

Interestingly, Rogue Trader feels linear for a game of its size. Matt describes the open-world aspect as being "largely reduced to deciding in which order you’d like to do quests". Rather than setting out into the world and exploring, you are limited by the current quests that are active.

If you’re a 40K fan or just looking for a combat-heavy RPG outside of the normal fantasy fare, Rogue Trader will make a welcome addition to your library. Itdives deeper into the setting and lore than any other video game to date, showing that it’s clearly a game by fans, for fans.

Overall, Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader is familiar and captivating for veteran 40k fans. Matt even mentions that the creative director was directly inspired by the tabletop campaign, which is evident in the gameplay mechanics.

While this may be a bit overwhelming to new players (especially with the large blocks of text full of new information), it's presented in an intriguing manner, hooking you right from the start.

Time Expenditure

Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader is a massive game, so you can expect to spend anywhere from 50 to 100 playing. This includes going through all five chapters, as well as any side quests that you choose to complete.

With multiple endings and archetypes, you can start over without the game feeling redundant. Combined with reaching 100 percent completion, you can invest upwards of 200 hours playing.

Cost

Rogue Trader costs $49.99 USD on all platforms, which currently consists of PC, PlayStation, and Xbox.
