One week on from its internet-breaking release, the consensus on Hollow Knight: Silksong is that it's pretty darn good. The only hang-up some people have is that it's a little difficult. Not everyone has been having issues, though, as some players have managed to beat the game in less than two hours.

The first person was Onaku. They posted a time of 1:46, only to better it by almost 30 minutes hours later with a 1:19 run. Rival speedrunner BlueSR has already managed to beat that, though. They submitted a time of 1:26, only to keep plugging away and shave more minutes off their best time, beating Silksong in 1:17, a new world record.

Silksong Has Already Been Beaten In Under 90 Minutes, What's Taking You So Long?

That record reportedly lasted just 11 minutes and, at the time of typing this, there's a run out there that's even faster than 1:17. The only problem is I can't seem to find it, but since BlueSR is the one who noted it beat their own record, I'm sure it exists. BlueSR is also live on YouTube right now, trying to reclaim the record, and I'd hazard to guess that they'll manage that pretty soon.

Speedruns are only going to get considerably faster next week once Silksong's first big update goes live. Team Cherry has confirmed that early game bosses Moorwing and Sister Splinter will be easier to beat once the update is rolled out. Just imagine how quickly people will be able to finish the game once those changes have been applied.

It's possible that people have beaten Silksong even faster, and we won't know for sure just how quickly people are racing through Pharloom for another few weeks. The speedrun leaderboards for the Hollow Knight sequel will open on September 30, at which point players will be able to submit their runs and see how they stack up against some of Silksong's other speedrunners.

Speedruns of the original Hollow Knight might be a good way to gauge just how far people can go with Silksong speedruns. The record runs in Hollow Knight are almost down to just 30 minutes, and according to HowLongToBeat, the first game takes, on average, five hours longer to finish than Silksong. Maybe, by the time people are done, we could see players speeding through the sequel in less than half an hour.

I'm no speedrunner, and if you are firmly in the camp of those who are enjoying Silksong but struggling with its difficulty, I'm right there with you. I mentioned in the headline of this article that Onaku beat the game in less time than it takes me to beat some of its boss fights, and that's kind of true. I am currently stuck on the bit in Greymoor where you have to beat wave after wave of annoying birds before you can progress, and I'm fairly certain I have been stuck there for at least two hours.
