Play Hollow Knight From Start To Finish During Its Free Trial On Switch

Summary
- Nintendo has added a Hollow Knight free trial to Switch for NSO subscribers.
- The trial will be live until June 12, giving you plenty of time to play through the entire game.
- Some think the free trial is inidicative of a Silksong announcement being on the horizon.
The biggest reasons for having Nintendo Switch Online are being able to play certain games online, and getting access to its libraries of retro games that are added to sporadically by Nintendo. NSO subscribers also get free trials for modern games from time to time, usually dropped with little-to-no notice. That's what has happened today as right now, NSO subscribers in certain parts of the world can fire up their Switch and play Hollow Knight without actually having to buy it.
Nintendo of Europe revealed the surprise on social media on Thursday morning, confirming that if you have NSO, you can now play Hollow Knight for free. Yes, that does mean this is a Europe-only opportunity for now. Keep watching the Nintendo of America accounts and keep an eye on your eShop if you're in the US though as there's every chance this free trial finds its way to the States sooner rather than later.

PostsNintendo has a significant leg up on PlayStation's PS Plus trials as its time limits work very differently. While PlayStation gives Plus Premium subscribers a pre-determined amount of time with a game, Nintendo just lets you play it for as long as you like until the trial period ends. Since the Hollow Knight free trial will be available until June 12, you can comfortably play the game from start to finish. I guess I know what I'll be doing this weekend.

Powered by Expand CollapseThe timing of the Hollow Knight trial hitting Switch is interesting. As soon as the tweet was posted, Hollow Knight fans assumed a Silksong announcement is coming. It makes sense, but as those of us who have been waiting half a decade for the Hollow Knight sequel know all too well, it's best not to expect Silksong news at any upcoming showcases. That said, since Nintendo has already confirmed a Direct is coming this month, some are now convinced Silksong will be a part of it.
If the Hollow Knight trial is teasing a Silksong announcement, you'd think that means the Direct will be here before the trial ends, so between now and Wednesday. There's also a chance Silksong makes an appearance during the various showcases taking place this weekend. Probably not during Summer Game Fest, but potentially during Xbox's showcase on Sunday. Since I've let the speculation go to my head, my guess is the Hollow Knight trial ends on Wednesday and then Nintendo shadow-drops Silksong during a Direct the following day.
