Helldivers 2 players will know that developer Arrowhead loves to omit certain additions to the game in its patch notes, mostly as a way to keep new enemy additions a surprise for the community to discover for themselves. They did it with the addition of Shriekers last year, and sneakily upgraded the Automaton army earlier this year too.

Neither of those hold a candle to what Arrowhead has sneakily added this time though, as Helldivers across the galaxy are now being ambushed by Hive Lords. These are giant, worm-like creatures that tower above anything that's been seen in the game so far, are extremely resilient (you'll need around a dozen nukes to take it out), and are just outright terrifying to look at.

Helldivers 2 Update Sneakily Adds Hive Lords And Dragonroaches

Understandably, players are now in a state of adrenaline-fuelled fight or flight, with some diving head first into the jaws of the beast with a smile on their face, and others running for the hills. Players have been sharing screenshots of their first encounters with the Hive Lords, and the range of reactions is truly a sight to behold.

Reddit threads are full of soldiers describing their experiences, telling of how they needed to throw every single weapon they had at the creature, using up all their reinforcements, only to just barely take it down. It's truly a force of nature, and the deadliest thing Helldivers have had to fight so far. If it can bounce a truck like a basketball, you're in for a tough time.

On top of that, several other tough enemies have also joined alongside the Hive Lord, one of the more terrifying being the Dragonroach, an enormous flying Terminid that spews acid like a carpet bomber. Just like the Hive Lord, some Helldivers have taken to greeting the beast with open arms, with one brave soldier flying up to meet it in the sky on its own terf. They didn't survive.

So, if you plan on taking the fight to the Terminids, this is your first and only warning to make sure you're equipped with as much firepower as you can physically carry, and pray to Super Earth that the Hive Lord goes easy on you.
