PostsThe Airburst Rocket Launcher is another higher-firepower weapon that requires a particular playstyle and cannot be played in any scenario. This weapon is designed to do one thing: destroy the mobs, but a certain level of experience and awareness is required to utilize it efficiently. Otherwise, it could turn into a team-slayer weapon rather than a weapon for killing enemies.
How To Get The Airburst Rocket Launcher
CloseTo obtain the Airburst Rocket Launcher, you must buy it from the Ship Management console for 8,000 Requisition Slips. The weapon comes with a 480-second cooldown, which means you can call this strategy again in the field after the mentioned time has elapsed.
The Airburst Rocket Launcher became available after helldivers liberated Penta. This weapon unlock was part of a Major Order where liberating Choohe would give helldivers the MD-17 Anti-Tank Mines, and Penta would offer the RL-77 Airburst Rocket Launcher. The players clearly favored the latter.
How To Use The Airburst Rocket Launcher
The RL-77 Airburst Rocket Launcher is a support weapon that has the capacity of one rocket fired at a time. Like other rocket stratagems, such as GR-8 Recoilless Rifle, and the FAF-14 SPEAR, the Airburst Rocket Launcher, it comes with a backpack.
The backpack comes with five spare rockets that you can reload after firing the main weapon. You can restock the used rockets by interacting with the ammo boxes found in the POIs, resupplying them from the Supply Pod, or calling down the Airburst Rocket Launcher again after the cooldown.
Whenever you fire the rocket salvo from the Airburst Rocket Launcher, it seeks a target to explode into mini-cluster bombs. This target could be a friend or foe, and the single rocket immediately bursts open into a wide AoE of cluster bombs on first contact.
The Airburst Rocket Launcher also detonates into bombs when you have defensive stratagems nearby. For instance, during our weapon testing, we found that a rocket salve exploded immediately into cluster bombs when the HMG turret, Sentries, and Resupply Pod were nearby.
Do not fire the Airburst Rocket Launcher near the dead bodies of enemies or friends. The rocket salvo even detects these bodies and explodes into cluster bombs. This could result in killing you or any teammates nearby. If you are targeting a mob at a medium range, but you have dead bodies closer to the actual target, you must find another angle and then fire the rocket salvo.
Is The Airburst Rocket Launcher Good Against Terminids?
The Airburst Rocket Launcher performs more efficiently against bugs in the game. That is because most Terminid enemy types have light to medium armor. The Bile Titan and the Charger are the only two enemies with heavy armor that require heavy weapons to penetrate.
The Eagle Cluster Bomb already does a good job when used on bugs. Similarly, the Airburst Rocket Launcher, which shreds light to medium armor foes, completely destroys Terminid mobs. Using the RL-77 Airburst Rocket Launcher, clearing a bug hole POI or wiping off a roaming patrol becomes very easy. The weapon can also one-shot a Spore Spewer.
Since the Terminids like to attack from a close range, it will be better to maintain a medium-range distance from the target before you fire the Airburst Rocket Launcher. That is because the medium range is the ideal distance not to get sucked into the cluster bombs' explosives.
If you fire this weapon from very close, you will die instantly. Compare this with the collateral of the Eagle Cluster Bomb stratagem, and you will realize how lethal the Airburst Rocket Launcher is for friendlies.
If you are running with the Airburst Rocket Launcher as your main support weapon stratagem, you must bring a heavy offensive stratagem that could kill heavy-armored foes such as the Bile Titan and defeat a Charger. Eagle Airstrike, Eagle 110MM Rocket Pods, and Orbital Railcannon Strike are three of the best stratagems for quickly killing heavy-armored enemies.
Is The Airburst Rocket Launcher Good Against Automatons?
The Airburst Rocket Launcher is underwhelming when you use it against the Automatons. Even though this weapon has a rocket salve, you still cannot use it to destroy Automaton Fabricators. If you fire straight at it, the cluster bombs will explode and kill nearby bots, but they will not destroy the Bot Fabricator.
Similarly, the Hulk, Tank, the Tower Cannon, and the Factory Strider are impossible to kill using the Airburst Rocket Launcher. This support weapon is useless for dealing with heavy armor penetration damage. Hence, using the Airburst Rocket Launcher against the Automatons faction will waste your stratagem slot, as the weapon lacks the higher firepower to destroy powerful foes.
