Summary

  • Xbox has been porting several of its first-party games to PlayStation and Nintendo over the past year.
  • Even Halo, the defining Xbox series, is rumoured to have a port in the works for The Master Chief Collection.
  • According to a reliable insider, though, the ports might not include the whole collection at once.

A reliable Xbox insider has suggested that the rumoured Switch and PlayStation ports of Halo: The Master Chief Collection might not include every game from the series.

Over the past year and a bit, Xbox has undergone one of its biggest strategy changes of all time and moved away from first-party exclusives. As Hi-Fi Rush, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Grounded, and Forza Horizon 5 have been proving, Xbox doesn't really have any interest in exclusives anymore, and is basically shifting towards being a publisher.

Even though it seems like most Xbox games are making their way over to PlayStation and Nintendo now, there are still of its biggest series that have yet to make the leap, such as Gears of War, Hellblade, and Microsoft Flight Simulator, which are all rumoured to have ports in the works. The biggest franchise that's rumoured to leave Xbox, though, is none other than Halo itself.

Halo's Ports Might Not Include Every Master Chief Collection Game

But Is That Just For Switch Or Is PlayStation Being Limited Too?

For a while now, there have been a lot of rumours that Halo: The Master Chief Collection is going to get ported over to the Nintendo Switch (likely the Switch 2) and PlayStation, but it's not something that's formally been announced yet. Most of us just expect the collection to come over to PlayStation and Nintendo as is, but that might not be the case.

As pointed out by Redditor MXHombre123 on the GamingLeaksAndRumours subreddit, The Verge reporter Tom Warren recently took part in The Xbox Two podcast with Jez Corden and Rand al Thor. While chatting about the Switch 2's Direct that's happening next week, Al Thor asks whether there'll be much support from Xbox for the Switch 2's launch.

In response, Warren says he's not sure but that Xbox is doing a bunch of games for Nintendo. Al Thor responds by saying that it could be where the Master Chief Collection is unveiled, which causes Warren to say that he doesn't know if it's going to be a "collection" in the traditional sense like we're expecting.

Yeah, we don't think it'll have every game, put it that way. That's the most I can say on it. - Tom Warren

When asked about this, Warren says that The Verge doesn't think it'll have "every game", which suggests that the ports might be missing some content or that it'll be spaced out as individual releases. It's not clear if this is just for the Nintendo version due to hardware limitations or a purposeful choice that'll apply to the PlayStation port too, but it seems that it'll be a little different to the all-in-one Xbox release.
