It was a little surprising when Xbox announced it was returning to traditional exclusives, with Gears of War: E-Day and The Clockwork Revolution skipping PlayStation entirely. After all, just last year, the PS5 bestsellers chart was dominated by Xbox titles like Forza Horizon.
However, Circana senior director Mat Piscatella claims that Halo: Campaign Evolved is significantly underperforming on PlayStation, accounting for just 1% of the userbase.
"According to Circana's Player Engagement Tracker, on July 28th, Halo: Campaign Evolved ranked 4th in US DAU on Xbox platforms (8% of total Xbox players on that date launched the game), while placing 14th on Steam (2% of actives) and 29th on PlayStation (1% of actives)," Piscatella explained on Bluesky. "The average console player engaged with Halo: Campaign Evolved for over 2 hours on the 28th, with the average Steam player spending a little over 1 hour in the game."

It's admittedly strange seeing Halo — a flagship Xbox exclusive — on a PlayStation console, but there just isn't the same novelty as there might have been a decade ago, as the series is long past its prime.
Halo 4 began the trend of chasing other success stories rather than leading the FPS genre as its predecessors had, riding the coattails of Call of Duty in a blatant identity crisis that lost sight of what made the series so enduring; Halo 5 sidelined Master Chief and completely abandoned split-screen co-op, further shedding the franchise's identity; and while Infinite returned to what made Halo a defining shooter of the '00s, it was lacking in multiplayer maps and popular playlists, with bare bones post-launch support dragging on for too long.
Halo has spent so long struggling to recapture its former status that an entire generation of players instead grew up with Call of Duty, Fortnite, and Apex Legends, so it's no wonder that PS5 players simply don't care. Halo isn't the hit that it once was, and after five years, the most the series has to show for itself is a divisive remake without multiplayer.
