Over the weekend, it was reported that Grand Theft Auto 6 has been hit with a delay, pushing it back into 2026. However, journalist Jason Schreier is now saying that this is not the case, citing multiple Rockstar workers who are pushing back against this rumour.

Schreier says that this was confirmed to him by six Rockstar employees, who all say that they haven't heard anything about a delay. This could mean that Rockstar really is sticking to its 2025 release window, which was announced alongside its first trailer last December.

GTA 6 Hasn't Been Delayed, It's Claimed

While this is good news for GTA fans eagerly awaiting the next instalment, it's worth noting one of the points in Schreier's tweet - we're still a long way off from launch. Right now, the release date has only been narrowed down to the second half of 2025. In the time between then and now, Rockstar might decide that GTA 6 needs more time in the oven, and push for that delay into 2026.

At the very least, it's already been confirmed that the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike against the gaming industry will not delay GTA 6. This game is exempt from the strike because it entered development before 2023. So, if actors need to return to the studio, they will be able to do so.

We'll have to wait and see if Rockstar is able to give us a more definitive release date for GTA 6 before the end of the year - and if that release date stays within the initially announced 2025 window. Right now, we're still waiting on another trailer, as all we have to go on is what we were shown in the reveal.
