If you would like to try your hand at light thieving in Gothic 1 Remake, you will need several lockpicks and some skill. They haven't made stealing from locked chests easy, and it is something that you might have to practice.

The art of lockpicking in this game is a time-consuming and tricky feature, but there are large rewards if you are successful, and of course, there is the chance to improve with training. Here is everything you need to know about finding lockpicks and successfully picking locks in Gothic 1 Remake.

How To Get Lockpicks

You can unironically steal lockpicks from around the camp, but this comes with the risk of being caught and damaging your reputation or getting beaten up. The best thing to do is to purchase them from a vendor. Most vendors sell lockpicks, but most players get them from Mordrag, the trader from New Camp who visits the Old Camp.

You can usually find Mordrag near the small entrance near the market area. You can recognize him by his striking blue scarf.

Once you find a vendor who sells lockpicks for a reasonable price, make sure to stock up, as you can get through a lot of them as you are learning how to pick locks. Remember, you can save money by selling things you have too.

How To Pick Locks

Picking a lock in Gothic 1 Remake is tricky, but once you get used to how it works, you will stop wasting so many picks. The idea is to get all the center pins to pop up, which sounds easy enough, but as you move each plate, they in turn move another plate. This means you often have to move plates you have already moved, and plan which plate to move next in advance.

Take your time, and watch for which plates move when you adjust another. When all the center pins line up and are popped out, the chest will open.
