Getting into the main castle area is your main focus during chapter 1 of Gothic 1 Remake, but to get there, you'll have to first complete a lot of little quests.

Folk at the Old Camp need to know they can trust you, so it is now your job to prove your worth. You can do this by speaking to any name NPC, and completing the side quests they have for you. There are some important quests to do to make sure you get inside the castle and speak to Gomez, and also pass the letter to the Fire Mage.

When you arrive at Old Camp, you need to go to the main castle entrance and tell him of your plan to join. He will explain that you need someone to vouch for you if you want to get inside. Thankfully, you have already met someone willing to do this: Diego, whom you met at the start of the game.

Diego won't just vouch for you straightaway, of course, and needs you to prove yourself first. You can do this by completing some side quests. Start speaking to the men around the camp; ignore Diggers and Shadows, but focus on the NPCs with names.

Use the links in each side quest below to help you complete each one easily.

The side quests you must complete before you are considered are:

  • The Cult's Recipe: speak to Dexter and steal a recipe from Swamp Camp.
  • A Ring For Fingers: speak to Fingers, whose hut is near Snaf's food pot, and steal a ring from a hut nearby.
  • Out Of Sight: speak to Thorus and bug him about a job.
  • Test Of Faith: speak to Diego, who will send you to find a man named Ian at the Old Mine.
  • Whistler's Sword: speak to Whistler in his hut near the market, who needs you to buy his sword back from Fisk.
  • The Vanished Warder: speak to Sly who is usually near the north gate, and help find his friend Nek.

After these are complete, you should speak to Diego again, and he should be able to vouch for you. If he says you are 'not experienced enough', then challenge one of the men in the arena to a fight to prove your strength.
