The overall consensus of the Game Boy Advance classic Golden Sun is that the game mechanics and customization are some of the best in the genre. The Djinn system lets you experiment with any combination of the four elements, and the only limit is the amount of Djinn you can carry.

PostsYou could easily beat the game and save the world with your abilities alone, but where’s the fun in that? How could you pass up the opportunity to summon the Great Dragon Tiamat to completely level the battlefield, right? Putting in the extra time is more than worth it. However, if you want some build suggestions to try on the switch release, check out some combinations below.
This only pertains to the first Golden Sun game.
4 Issac
Adept Element -Venus (Earth)
You start Issac off with his squire job, and even though he has Venus affinity, he’s an empty slate with plenty of potential to be the strongest DPS in the game. Assigning him Djinn from both the Wind element (Jupiter) and Fire Element (Mars) with bestow the Samurai class, and while it technically doesn’t matter which Djinn you use, some that you might want to consider are:
Adept
Mars
Forge
Increases the party’s attack by 25 percent
Corona
Increases the party’s defense by 25 percent
Flash
Decreases the party’s damage by 90 percent for one turn
Ember
Restores active party member’s PP (Psynergy Points) for 7 percent of their max PP
Adept
Jupiter
Kite
Gives the intended target the ability to take two actions on their next turn
Luff
Prevents your intended target from using their Psynergy powers with 100 percent accuracy.
Zephyr
Increases all active party members' agility up to 100 percent; crucial for striking first in battle.
As a Samurai, Issac unlocks one of the best Psynergy skills in the game: Quick Strike. Just a fair warning, the move won’t be unlocked until you reach level 40, but you’ll have plenty of other attacks to play around with until then; who knows, you might switch to another class altogether by then for fun.
3 Ivan
Adept Element - Jupiter (Wind)
Don’t feel left out, magic lovers! This mage is adept at using both healing and attack magic but can be a real glass cannon if you don’t allocate the proper Djinn to counterbalance the lack of defense. There are a few recommended Djinn you might want to consider when building toward either the White Mage Class or the ultimate Pure Mage if you can manage it:
Adept
Mercury
Fizz
Restores the target’s HP by 60 percent of their maximum HP
Spritz
Restores all active party members’ HP by 30 percent
Tonic
Heals all status ailments of active party members
Dew
Your Target has an 80 percent chance to be revived with 80 percent of their health regained
Adept
Jupiter
Breeze
Increases the resistance of all active party members by 40 points
Luff
Seals the enemy’s Psynergy with full accuracy
Squall
Deals an earth-based attack that’s 140 percent stronger than the caster’s base and there’s a chance it causes the target to be stunned
Each of these djinn suggested offers a passive defense boost to the player, providing that much-needed cushion to make up for Ivan’s lack thereof. While it isn’t as good as say a physical attacker, you’ll manage to melt down enemies before they get a chance to touch you.
2 Garet
Adept Element - Mars (Fire)
Though he may come second to Issac in terms of raw power, Garet, if you play your Djinn and cards right, you’ll have a defense powerhouse in your party that could deal decent damage. For maximum damage output, Garet is generally given the Dragoon class, which requires three earth Djinn and three water Djinn. What would be the best Djinn for the job? Well, how about:
Adept
Venus
Vine
Lowers all enemies’ Agility by 50 percent
Sap
Deals a physical attack that heals the user for 50 percent of the damage dealt to the target
Bane
Damages the target and gives them Deadly Poison, which quickly works through the target’s health
Adept
Mercury
Hail
Attacks and possibly lowers the defense of the target
Sleet
Deals damage and lowers the attack of the target by 25%
Fizz
Restores a target HP by 60 percent of their maximum HP
You can’t beat the Dragoon when it comes to defense, but it comes at the cost of its Agility, which means you won’t be able to attack earlier in the formation. This isn’t to say it’s bad, you’ll just have extra time to build up your strength before swinging hard and fast.
1 Mia
Adept Element - Mercury (Water)
Mia is unique in the fact that she is the only mage who is Mercury adept and, coincidently, is the strongest healer in the game. Her initial class is called the Water Seer and could be a great healer on her own as a mono-elemental class, but her potential will sour through the roof under the Sage class. To unlock the Sage, we’d suggest:
Adept
Jupiter
Kite
The Target can take two actions on their next turn
Squall
A strong attack; with a low chance of stunning the target
Luff
Prevents the target from using Psynergy for several turns
Zephyr
Doubles the agility of all active party members
Breeze
Increases the resistance of all active party members
Gust
Deals wind damage, with a chance to deal double damage
Adept
Mercury
Fizz
Restores the target HP by 60 percent of their maximum HP. Mia automatically comes with this
Of course, you could always go beyond sage and become a Wizard by adding two more Djinn, but Sage offers a wide variety of healing, buffing, and damage-dealing spells to give you a good chance at all bosses that stand in your way. Mia’s wish spells are some of the best spells you can get throughout the whole game.
Remember, these are just a few suggested Djinn that would be good for both newcomers and veterans returning to the game. Golden Sun encourages you to experiment to your heart's content, and what may be on this list might not work for you the way you want, which is okay! The power to play your way is yours.
