DLC is a conscientious topic in gaming. What started as extra content to add to your games because a means of mass financial exploitation with content being removed to be sold as DLC, day one passes, and so on. That all then led to microtransactions, an altogether egregious practice.

8 Playstation Games With The Best DLC

Sometimes the DLC for PlayStation games is even better than the game itself.

At this point, DLC is an assumed part of gaming and not having it is an oddity. Yet with all that said, there's still a reasonable amount of DLC before it just gets obscene. These are the games with the most DLC, and you might start rethinking just how much DLC is too much once you've gotten to the end of it.

8 Cities: Skylines

An Outrageous 60 DLC

Cities: Skylines

City Builder Released March 10, 2015 Developer(s) Colossal Order Platform(s) Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Seires X, Xbox Series S Powered by Expand Collapse

Paradox is lauded and despised in equal measure. While they do make some truly astounding grand strategy games, they are also backed up by copious amounts of DLC that are all a bit much for what they offer. Cities: Skylines is the biggest criminal of this.

Seen as the best successor to SimCity that there was, it was met with great reception. And then came the DLC. And then more DLC. And you guess it, even more DLC. And somehow, even more DLC. It currently stands at over 60 DLC, and it is entirely possible it will still grow, somehow.

7 The Sims 4

An Absurd 80 DLC

The Sims 4

Simulation 10.0/10 Released September 2, 2014 Developer(s) Maxis Platform(s) PS4, Xbox One, PC Powered by Expand Collapse

The Sims games are some of the finest examples of great games that are negatively impacted by the frankly obscene amount of DLC they get. Yes, much of the DLC is great, but it was also a DLC for The Sims 3. And The Sims 2. Pets really should just be part of the game at this point, guys.

Of course, then there is the Stuff Packs, which to their credit really is just stuff. No new gameplay, but some new stuff that you may never actually put in your home. And with the promise to support The Sims 4 for years to come, you can get that 80 DLC is only a placeholder.

6 Microsoft Flight Simulator X

An Immense 230 DLC

Microsoft has always liked to put itself on the cutting edge when it comes to certain tech. In the earliest days of its gaming ambitions, before they went all-in on Xbox, they were investing in PC gaming with the Microsoft Flight Simulators. The latest Flight Simulators are its most applauded yet, though they are far from the first.

You can still buy Microsoft Flight Simulator X on STeam, released in 2006. And in the almost two decades since its release, it has gotten about 230 DLC. These vary from new planes to varying graphics updates. Thankfully, the latest games feature no such absurdity of DLC.

5 Monster Hunter Rise

A Staggering 250 DLC

Monster Hunter Rise

Action RPG Released March 26, 2021 Developer(s) Capcom Platform(s) Switch, PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One Powered by Expand Collapse

When it comes to the Monster Hunter games, DLC is always a funny issue. The games are incredibly generous in terms of what they offer in free title updates, while the major expansions they receive tend to be quite reasonably priced for the amount of content they get and years of support.

Of course, then there's the cosmetic stuff. You can ignore it entirely, but some of it is quite nice, isn't it? It's one of the less egregious forms of monetisation in multiplayer game, though Monster Hunter Rise having around 250 DLC still seems a tad excessive. You're gonna have to pay up if you want to play Fashion Hunter.

4 Dead Or Alive 6

A Nice 460 DLC

Dead or Alive 6

Fighting Released March 1, 2019 Developer(s) Team Ninja Platform(s) PS4, PC, Xbox One Powered by Expand Collapse

The Dead or Alive games are interesting for what they started as, what fans perceived the games as, and then the final unison of what they currently are. The Dead or Alive series is made up of fighting games. Fans latched onto the well-endowed female characters. The Dead or Alive series is now a fighting game with almost exclusively female characters.

The DLC for the game consists of the typical fighting game fare, new characters and maps and such. The remaining 400 or so would be costumes. So, so many costumes. There is frankly more outfits than you could conceive.

3 Train Simulator Classic

A Modest 750 DLC

Simulator games really did take off a few years back, didn't they? It became a bit of a meme to have 'simulator' in the title of your game. Surgeon Simulator, Thief Simulator, and so on. Some people take the simulator side of their games quite seriously though. Enter Train Simulator Classic.

Sometimes, the monotony of a game is the only thing you need, plotting your little train routes across the continent. And sometimes, you might want a few more trains. Oh, that wagon looks nice. Hey, that would be a nice new route to add. Good thing you have around 750 DLC to choose from.

You can even buy a subscription if you're a real Trainhead to save you some money on all those DLC.

2 Rocksmith 2014

A Totally Normal 1280 DLC

Rocksmith 2014 Edition

Rhythm Released October 22, 2013 Developer(s) Ubisoft Platform(s) PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One Powered by Expand Collapse

The guitar is one of the most popular instruments to pick up. It's one you can get for relatively cheap, doesn't take up too much space, and has a lot of diversity in terms of the music you can play. So Ubisoft had the grand idea of expanding on the popularity of games like Rock Band and Just Dance, creating Rocksmith to let you learn the guitar.

With Rocksmith 2014 though came one of the most hilariously overburdened store pages in history. Almost 1300 DLC, almost every single one being a brand new song. There were only around 70 in the base game which seems like a much smaller number when you compare it to 1300.

1 Fantasy Grounds VTT

A Miniscule 3300 DLC

What's in a DLC anyway? What's the dividing point between what should be a free update and what should be a paid extra? For Fantasy Grounds: VTT, nothing is off-limits. In a Tabletop RPG, you can't quite decide what's needed when everyone is playing their own game. So add the baseline, and let players pick and choose what else they want.

But, um, 3300 seems like maybe a bit much. It is much cheaper than buying the physical versions of many of these guidebooks and scenario sets, but at a certain point maybe it might be better to just find a reference image for your games before you start whipping out your wallet.
