Guild Wars 2 has nine unique classes, each with its own set of Elite Specializations that work similarly to sub-classes in other games. Equipping an Elite Specialization unlocks a new set of skills, traits, and the ability to equip a new type of weapon, dramatically changing the playstyle of your class.

With Weaponmaster Training, the degree of freedom for building your character gets even greater. This system allows you to mix and match weapons, no matter what Elite Specialization you're running. Below, we'll take a look at what exactly Weaponmaster Training is, and how to unlock it.

What Is Weaponmaster Training?

Weaponmaster Training allows you to equip any Elite Specialization weapons for your class, regardless of what Elite Specialization you have equipped. For example, the Warrior's Berserker Elite Specialization unlocks the use of Torch in their off hand, but with Weaponmaster Training, you can equip a Torch as a Spellbreaker or Bladesworn.

Essentially, Weaponmaster Training allows you to mix and match your weapon equips across each Elite Specialization. This also means that you can equip two previously Elite Specialization-locked weapons at the same time, like an Elementalist wielding a Sword and Warhorn, or a Necromancer wielding a Pistol and Torch.

The weapons you can equip with Weaponmaster Training are detailed below.

It's important to note that you don't need to own the associated expansion that previously unlocked an Elite Specialization's weapon to make use of Weaponmaster Training. For example, even if you don't own Heart of Thorns, you can still equip a Staff on your Thief or a Hammer on your Engineer.

How To Unlock Weaponmaster Training

To unlock Weaponmaster Training, you first need to own the Secrets of the Obscure expansion. Then, progress through the expansion's story until you complete its third chapter "Mother of Stars".

After completing this step, talk to Frode in the Beacon of the Ages Command Center to unlock Weaponmaster Training. Luckily, this will unlock it account-wide for all of your characters, so you can instantly start experimenting with weapon combinations on other characters without having to repeat the story.
