GTA Online’s new Kortz Center Heist has randomly blocked an iconic 13-year-old tunnel escape strategy, and players really aren’t happy about it.

Say what you will about GTA Online and the impact that it’s had on Rockstar Games’ output and priorities, but it’s rare to see players all that worked up about it. There’s sometimes an unpopular nerf, a disappointing event, or something that costs too much money, but the community is usually pretty happy with whatever’s happening in Los Santos.

That’s not quite the case at the moment, though, as the latest update, which added the Kortz Center Heist, hasn’t been going down well. Not only did it nerf the payout for multiple heists (which Rockstar seems to be addressing), but it’s now being labelled “anti-player” for a sudden change it’s made to a 13-year-old escape strategy.

GTA Online Update Has Blocked Off Tunnels To Make Police Chases Harder

Rockstar’s Clamping Down On An Exploit That’s Been Around For More Than A Decade

If you’ve been playing GTA Online (or just GTA itself) for long enough, then you no doubt know that one of the easiest ways to escape the police is to head to a tunnel and hide out there. The tunnels are so narrow and have so few entrances that the police are very easy to avoid by simply driving into them and waiting out the wanted level.

That’s been the case since GTA Online launched nearly 13 years ago, but Rockstar has clearly had enough. As pointed out by Twitter user GTAVI_Countdown, the Kortz Center heist has added shutters to every tunnel to completely block off this exploit and force players to escape the police without cheesing it.

As far as I can tell, this change has only been applied to the Kortz Center heist, but it does suggest Rockstar is keeping it in mind going forward.

While I can understand wanting to get rid of an easy exploit, the tunnels have been a known strategy for more than a decade now and Rockstar hasn't seemed to mind. It's not clear what's changed all of a sudden, but it's yet another thing that players don't like about the update, with some labelling it "anti-player" and calling the Kortz Center update the game's worst so far.

Whatever the case, it doesn't exactly bode well for GTA 6's online mode, as Rockstar is clearly cracking down on a number of things and increasing the grind. We'll have to wait and see what Leonida has in store, but Los Santos is certainly looking a little less inviting after this update.
