Summary

  • Forza Horizon 4 will be delisted on December 15, so Steam is giving away some of the game's DLC before then.
  • Three of the racing sim's packs are now free on Steam. All you need to do is head to their store pages and hit download.
  • Both the base game and its DLC, including these free packs, will remain playable after Forza Horizon 4 has been delisted.

A reality of modern gaming is that occasionally games will be delisted. Removed from storefronts meaning if you don't already own a digital copy, you missed your chance. Xbox revealed that fate will befall Forza Horizon 4 later this year, chalking up the decision to licensing issues, likely ones connected to real cars being included in the game. Not ideal, but Xbox is doing all that it can to soften the blow, including giving away some of its DLC for free.

Forza Horizon 4 received a lot of DLC, and three of its packs are now available on Steam for nothing at all. The Mitsubishi Car Pack, 1979 Talbot Sunbeam Lotus, and 1967 Sunbeam Tiger are all available through the storefront for free right now. All you need to do is head to each pack's store page and hit download. The only caveat is you need to own a copy of Forza Horizon 4 purchased through Steam. Don't go hitting download on the DLC and then fire up your Xbox, blankly staring at the screen and wondering where it is.

Forza Horizon 4 will be delisted from Xbox and PC on December 15, 2024, but even after that date, the game will remain playable. This is just a case of the racing sim not being available to buy through digital storefronts from December 15. If you already own the game, buy the game before December 15, or even buy a physical copy after that date, it and any of the DLC you own - all of which will be delisted on December 15 along with the base game - will still function as normal.

Forza Horizon 4 brings the open-world racing series to the United Kingdom. It features races, missions, and a roster of over 750 cars across the main game and its DLC.

That includes Forza Horizon 4's online services. Sometimes when a game is delisted, the shut down of its online functionality bites the dust shortly after. That will not be the case for Forza Horizon 4 and you will still be able to keep playing with others online even after the game has been removed from storefronts. The other issue a lot of the game's players face, however, is its removal from Game Pass. Naturally, once Forza Horizon 4 is delisted, it will also leave Game Pass.

That means if you rely on Game Pass to play it, you will either need to buy it before December 15 or wave goodbye to it forever. At least that was the reality you faced before Xbox started shadow-dropping free copies of the game onto people's consoles, kind of like what U2 did with that album, but good. Game Pass subscribers who have purchased Forza Horizon 4 DLC have reported being given a free copy of the game by Xbox, presumably since they've spent money on a game's DLC that would have otherwise become unplayable after December 15.
