Fortnite has become the ultimate crossover game with characters from just about every major game, show, and movie showing up on its islands. There are some notable omissions, though, Sonic the Hedgehog being one of them, but it seems as if Epic has finally managed to bag the blue blur for an upcoming crossover.

That's according to various Fortnite leakers who have been sharing the information that seems to have tipped them off to Sonic's arrival in Fortnite. The leak appears to have started with Wenso, who shared textures discovered in-game that feature kicks, Fortnite's virtual footwear, featuring Sonic, and another pair themed after Shadow.

Sonic And Shadow Might Be Dropping Into Fortnite

Shiina has shared the leak since, but that's all we know about Sonic potentially showing up in Fortnite, for now. Seemingly confirmation that he and Shadow are coming to the game in footwear form at least, with no indication of when exactly the kicks will be available. However, it seems odd that Sonic and Shadow shoes would be added to Fortnite without the characters themselves following soon after.

That's not guaranteed, though, particularly when you consider what inevitably comes with a studio putting their characters in Fortnite. Sure, it is almost certainly bolstered by a deal that nets them more money than any regular release is going to bring in. However, it also means letting your characters, potentially characters that are universally associated with games made for children, like Sonic, use guns to eliminate other characters from various other series in a world where Goku, Master Chief, and Peter from Family Guy are all fighting one another.

That's not really a big deal for Shadow. The darker, brooding hedgehog has been shooting to kill since he starred in his very own video game more than 20 years ago. Sonic, on the other hand, doesn't use guns, and I'm assuming that's one of the reasons why it has taken so long for him to come to Fortnite when Sega seems to jump at the chance to have him crossover with just about anything else.

The need to use guns is likely one of many reasons why Mario isn't in Fortnite and likely never will be. Samus was the one character Nintendo considered putting in the game since she has been using deadly weapons to take out aliens for decades. However, it's claimed Nintendo requested that the Samus skin not show up for players playing Fortnite on non-Nintendo consoles. Epic refused, and the crossover didn't happen.
