As more time passes, the threat that Grand Theft Auto 6 will be delayed becomes more of a reality. It's been almost a year and a half since the first and only trailer was released, and the GTA community has been in meltdown ever since.

Wild predictions, dashed hopes, and shattered dreams have littered the internet as fans clamor for something from the world's most anticipated title. Things have gotten so bad that Take-Two Interactive's CEO has publicly explained the company's decision not to release anything yet.

That wait now looks a whole lot longer as one former Rockstar employee and Grand Theft Auto 4 developer has suggested that the company might not make the decision to delay the game until as late as July 2025.

"We Made The Decision To Delay The Game In July," Says Former GTA 4 Developer On Potential GTA 6 Delay

Last September, former Rockstar employee Obbe Vermeij shared that he believed any GTA 6 delay decision wouldn't be made until next year. Now working on his own title, Plentiful, and on the anniversary of Grand Theft Auto 4's release, the developer has clarified his comments, narrowing down the timeframe to this summer.

"The original release date [for GTA 4] was October 16th, 2007, in time for Christmas," Vermeij said."We made the decision to delay the game in July 2007. Only at that time did it become clear we were going to miss the deadline.

"I’m guessing decision day for VI will be similar. Fingers crossed for Take2’s August earnings report."

I’m guessing decision day for VI will be similar.

Vermeij's comments strongly suggest that if TakeTwo were to delay Grand Theft Auto 6, the decision wouldn't be taken until the last minute, likely around July.

Consumers and fans likely wouldn't find out about the delay the second Rockstar makes it, though, which is where the August earnings call comes in. During this call, Rockstar would have to announce the delay to its investors, and the news would become public knowledge shortly thereafter.

The former employee does state that he has "no inside info," but based on his previous history with the company and the previous development cycle he went through, this is as good a prediction as we're going to get.

Here's hoping that a delay doesn't come to pass.
