Square Enix Confirms The Whole Final Fantasy 7 Remake Trilogy Will Come To Switch 2 And Xbox

Today, we learned the release date for Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade's long-awaited Switch 2 version: January 22, 2026. The announcement arrived via a splashy new trailer during the big Nintendo Direct. It was soon confirmed through official channels that the game is coming to Xbox Series X|S on the same day.
What we didn't learn until after the show is that both FF7 Rebirth and the as-yet-untitled finale in the ongoing trilogy reimagining are also coming to Switch 2 and Xbox. (And PC, in Part 3's case — we didn't know that, either.)
While Rebirth's arrival on further current-gen systems is hardly a shocker, it's a momentous occasion when Square gets the news out long before its own launch that Part 3 is en route to non-Sony hardware, as well. Both Remake and Rebirth were PlayStation exclusives from the start, after all, and that Sony marketing money was used to great effect. If you wanted 'em at launch, you had to get 'em on PS4 (Remake) or PS5 (Rebirth).
When Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth's sales didn't exactly set Nibelheim ablaze, Square announced a major pivot toward a multiplatform-first future. There were other factors involved, of course, but this was certainly a strong contributor. Thus, the abrupt tweet reassures gamers everywhere of the multitude of options they will have when the last act of Cloud's lush retold adventure arrives. Whenever that is — we don't know much of anything yet. Which is fine. I mean, Rebirth literally just launched last year.
Rebirth also hadn't been confirmed for non-PlayStation consoles yet. Its Steam debut seems to have done pretty well for itself for a late port, though, and with Japan's big Nintendo slant, it's bound to do at least modestly fine by itself whenever it pops up.
One thing worth clearing up here: Square didn't actually say that any of those not-PS5 versions of Part 3 will launch simultaneously. Which is to say, we can't say with any degree of certainty that it's a truly multiplatform launch. That would certainly be wise, but who knows whether Sony contracts and/or the reality of huge AAA development will allow for such a feat. Here's hoping.
