The entries below show how everything is important in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. Despite the game taking over 100 hours to fully complete, nothing in the writing is superfluous. It all contributes to character relationships and developing the world where the game is set.

8 Glenn Lodbrok's Full Story

The First Soldier Mobile Game Is Completely Canon

Glenn Lodbrok shows up seemingly out of nowhere and it's hard to tell why he is important, but if you played the mobile battle royale First Soldier, then you at least know a little more about his backstory. He was a Shinra operative who eventually defected from Shinra, ousted the Wutai government, and installed a new one under the guidance of mysterious Viceroy Seruff.

The plotline tops off with Rufus killing Glenn. There is also an important subplot in the First Soldier game about Glenn feeling animosity towards Sephiroth, making some of the later events of Rebirth cruelly ironic for the character.

If you had any intention of playing First Soldier, we regret to inform you that it is already offline.

7 The Angel Of The Slums Returns

Mireille And Kyrie Return

Kyrie is a steady presence throughout the game, even showing up in some of the main cinematics; she is Mireille's daughter, who most believe is still in the Midgar slums. After doing the Trouble In Paradise quest, Mireille comes to confront her daughter about her aspirations of becoming a mercenary.

The two have a heart-to-heart in front of the party and Kyrie agrees to come back to Midgar. It's the classic child-to-parent conversation about never living up to expectations, where Mireille wants the two to work together on the same level, and not as a leader and subordinate.

6 Leslie Looking For His Lost Love

Another Character From Midgar Returns

In Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Leslie infiltrates Don Corneo's organization to look for his long-lost lover who got wrapped up in the organized crime syndicate. His attempts proved futile, but he didn't give up.

The party runs into him again below the Gold Saucer where you have to compete in a series of fights to win a human prize from the Gus, that area's flamboyant crime boss. Unfortunately for Leslie, the woman held captive by Gus is not who he was looking for.

5 Rude Has A Crush On Tifa

Even Though They Are On The Opposite Sides Of The Law

If you played Final Fantasy 7 on the PlayStation 1, you likely ran into the hidden conversation in Gongaga where Rude admits he has a crush on Tifa. This revelation makes a few moments in Rebirth more relevant.

In Chapter 13 a frog enemy is lunging at Tifa when Rude throws a punch in its direction and saves it from hurting her. Tifa thanks Rude, who barely responds and is most likely about to blush, and Reno then jokes about the interaction before the action continues.

4 Chocobo Sam's Past

He's Not As Evil As He Seems

The main story implies some shady business between Chocobo Sam and Chocobo Billy's parents. Billy believes Sam to be responsible for his parents' disappearance, and once you win the Gold Cup in the Chocobo racing minigame at the Gold Saucer, the truth is fully revealed.

Bill and his wife were conservationists who sadly had to take out too many loans to keep their efforts afloat. When the debts got too big, they were shuffled off to Shinra's labs by Don Corneo to pay off their loans.

Many of the side quests that are continuations from 2020's Final Fantasy 7 Remake still don't have proper conclusions, leading us to believe these characters and stories will return in the third game.

3 Cissnei Wraps Up A Story From Crisis Core

A Former Turk Comes Back

If you didn't play the PSP game Crisis Core or its remaster, Crisis Core: Reunion, you have no prior attachment to Cissnei. However, if you did, then her appearance in Gongaga will be relevant.

She had a fairly deep friendship with Zack and the two were in close contact until his death. In Rebirth, she is living in Gongaga and helping out the isolated town since the catastrophe at the nearby Mako reactor.

2 The Shinra Middle Manager

Can't Be A Party Animal Forever

The Shinra Middle Manager is on vacation in Costa del Sol, having a break from his boring life as a Shinra employee. If you do every side quest, then you unlock a final one in the Gold Saucer that tasks you with beating difficult high scores in the various minigames.

It is capped off with a bout against the Shinra Middle Manager in the 3D Brawler. Afterward, he crowns you the ultimate party animal and receives a call that he is needed back at Shinra, ending his vacation and career as a party animal.

You revisit Midgar in the original Final Fantasy 7, so we imagine you will see him here again in the third game if the plot follows the same trajectory.

1 How The War Shaped The Planet

Read All The Intel To Know About The World's Past

There was a war between Shinra and Wutai before the events of Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Rebirth. It shaped the state of the planet, but exactly how is not fully clarified in the main story.

If you find all the intel sources in each part of the world, the game reveals how most regions and towns were shaped by the terrible conflict, like Junon, which came under the control of Shinra during this time. Additionally, several NPCs are veterans of the war, such as the Chocobo ranch owner under Junon, Gabe, and Broden, the hotel owner in Kalm.
