Summary

  • Square Enix is selling a set of eight acrylic figures based on characters from Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.
  • The set is sold in boxes of eight, but that doesn't mean all eight figures are included in each box.
  • Since they're blind boxes, you could end up with duplicates in your set.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth might not have reached Square Enix's lofty expectations, but it has been popular enough for the studio to spin quite a bit of high-end merch from it. The Rebirth merch keeps on coming too as Square has opened pre-orders for a set of acrylic figures. The set is something of a double-edged sword, however, as even though they look great, it could potentially cost a lot of money to get all eight of them.

Eight of Rebirth's characters have been turned into acrylic standees from the collection including Barrett, Tifa, and even Red XIII riding a Chocobo. Since there are eight figures pictured and you can only buy a box with eight figures inside, you might assume for $48, you'll get a big box with every character inside. Unfortunately, that's not the case.

The boxes the Rebirth figures come in are blind boxes. That means you won't know what's inside them until they arrive and you open them up. The store page for the set notes that Square "cannot guarantee that each display contains the complete set of acrylic stands". Yes, that means not only is it possible your set of eight acrylic stands will include duplicates, but it's almost guaranteed that you won't get every single figure at the first time of asking.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth's Acrylic Figures Are Exclusively Available In Blind Boxes

While not very likely, and hopefully something Square would actively try to prevent happening, it's feasible that your box of eight figures could include the same character in every single box. As adorable as that Aerith figure is, I'd be pretty annoyed if I paid $48, waited until this set is slated to ship in March 2025, and opened my boxes one by one to find the same character in each of them.

I'm a writer, not a mathematician, but if my calculations are correct, the odds of you getting all eight figures in your first box are roughly one in 416.

The goal here appears to be to try and make Final Fantasy fans buy as many of these sets as possible. Those who don't beat the odds and end up with duplicates but desperately want all eight might buy another box, and then another box after that if they still don't have them all. Might I suggest that those of us placing pre-orders agree to make trades with one another once our boxes arrive in March? That requires a degree of trust, of course, but better that than spending $48 over and over in the hope you'll one day have the complete set.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Mini Acrylic Stand Collection

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth's acrylic stand collection includes adorable versions of Cloud, Tifa, and six other characters from the game. Even though the box includes eight figures, these are blind boxes so your eight figures might include duplicates.

You never know, maybe once the pre-order period has ended, the blind boxes will be available to buy individually. Until then, and once you have placed your acrylic figure set pre-order, we've got a better-looking version of Rebirth to look forward to on the PS5 Pro. What do you mean you're not paying $700 just for that?
