I finally did it. I moved servers in Final Fantasy 14, and haven’t looked back ever since. A few months ago, I wrote about how lonely I was getting in the game because all my friends had left. Our Free Company house was always empty, my friends list was devoid of life, and I missed proper social interactions with fellow Warriors of Light I’d come to love.

To combat this, I made an alt character on an NA server, and I was enjoying rediscovering the game and catching up in a friend’s Free Company. Unfortunately, life being ever eventful has prevented me from pumping in enough time, and I’ve neglected my NA buddies. I’m sorry!

When I’m logging into FF14, it’s for community events, polishing off new seasonal events, or maybe the odd PvP match while lamenting the fact that I don’t have the time to catch up on the main scenario quest. But even in those brief few hours, the empty chat box weighs on me. I was clinging to an empty FC house on the off chance my friends returned, but it was time for me to face it. They’re not coming back.

A friend of mine kindly invited me to Lich to join her Free Company with a bunch of other players I’d met before, so it was time to get packed. I’ve never moved servers before so I had to look into everything I had to prepare for. I would lose the house with no gil reimbursement, which was a little annoying, but I didn’t want that to stop me.

I emptied the FC house and desynthesized anything I didn’t want anymore. Then I had to sort my inventory to carry over all the furnishings I wanted to keep. I’ve neglected to sort it for years, so it was horrendous. I only had the patience to move, sell, desynth so much before I ultimately shoved the rest in my retainer’s inventories and called it a day. I didn’t want to lose all of my precious event furnishings from over the years, after all.

Then it was a case of ensuring my retainers weren’t out in the field, abandoning the FC and its house, and I was ready to jump ship. Purchasing the transfer and putting it into action was all relatively quick and easy. I had to change one retainer’s name, but otherwise, I was pretty lucky.

Ob Sidian invited me to her Free Company as soon as I reached Lich and I started unpacking and settling into my new home. It’s so great to be back in a house that feels lived in, as everyone has such unique rooms that show off their personalities and Ob Sidian has done such a fabulous job of decorating the main rooms in the house.

Every week, the FC runs some casual content together, and it was nice just to chill out together and do old content to help one another. We did some bird mount farming last week, just having a bit of fun and messing around while doing it. It reminded me just how much I missed these easygoing, casual groups with others. You don’t have to take yourself too seriously, they don’t mind if you die a few times, and they’re all down to have a little dance in the downtime in boss battles.

I still aim to level my NA alt and experience the story all over again, but I’ll have to wait until life settles down a bit more before I can give it my full attention. For now, I’m just happy that I have friends to spend time with while running a few dailies, tackling treasure maps, and just generally being around so I don’t feel like I’m playing the loneliest MMO in the world.
